Oh you're horrible! I'm doing my best to not even get any dust in these, because we know how Dave is... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Prepped the basecoat for the clears... That cross hatch! (Prep done RIGHT!) The first step out from basecoat into clear... This is the thick one, at a 4:1 mix. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Scuffed them down... Then went round 2 with the clear/base step out... Didn't use basecoat though, instead I used a 10% mix with solid black toner! And the MONEY SHOT!!! Next up is adding my signature, then a 5% toner/clear mix... After that sit's for the night, the final clearcoat will go on after everything is perfectly leveled. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Money shot, indeed. This photo is probably the DaveO version of pr0n. He's going to need some "alone time" when he sees it. :eek6: CD :biggrin5:
I sent it to him first... Still no reply back! But yes, the reflection is that good! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Waiting for my signatures to dry, so I can clean up the glue from the stenciling, and shoot the last coat of the night... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The final prep took less time than I expected! (NOT sharing the process, because there is a definite trick to it that not everyone needs to know! ) But I'm setting up the garage now to spray the final round of straight clearcoat onto Dave's mirrors... Took a few pictures this morning in the halfassed sun, and got my signature in them to show it off. Keep in mind that the final result should be a little shinier than these... They look effing AWESOME! That is why I chose you my friend to paint them. Your attention to the detail, quality of work and craftsmanship, are truly second to none. Oh and yes I did need some "alone time" with the pictures of my mirrors. :ihih:  ihih:
I'm going to give them another coat of clear tonight when the garage cools off... The clear dried a little too fast, and the shine just isn't all there... On the plus side, it makes the clearcoat just that much thicker! Shooting the clear I use when it's too hot (right now it's over 90 degrees in the garage) gives the surface of the paint a very slight fog to it from the airborne overspray settling on a surface that can't absorb it... That's the down side of not having a climate controlled shop with good enough ventilation to get all the overspray out. Some day... When I win the Powerball! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
They are actually smoothing out a little sitting in the sun! Never had it do that before! But if I'm still not 100% with them at 8:00 tonight, they're getting another coat! I wanna see this crazy SOB in full detail from across the garage! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Cooling down nicely!... Not as humid as this morning either which is good. (Sitting at 26% which is almost perfect) Mirrors are re prepped, just let the compressor fill back up after I drained it this morning, and I'm about to start scrubbing the floor down... Probably be spraying sometime within the next 2 hours! Going to go a tad light on the hardener just to make sure this coat flows out like glass! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Near PERFECTION!!! Tomorrow morning before I leave for the day, I'll get some daylight pictures up, but these will do for now. There are a couple flaws (dust) but they're only visible under a high powered light, Dave is good with it! Other than that it's like I reached down deep and yanked out a chunk of my soul! When I have to do a single solid color, I still make it look as good as possible. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks man! Hopefully I will be doing some more soon! Guess I could put up one shot of the reflective signature graphic... They are on the bottom of the mirror next to the post, if anyone wants to check them out, and they're perfectly smoothed into the paint! Not a single trace of an extra coat anywhere. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I haven't even seen them in the sun yet! Artificial lighting only goes so far, especially when you can't touch or move them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Here they are!!! If you look close enough you might see the few little dust nibs that I told about last night, but I'm not saying anything. I think the pictures outside in the shade are the best... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
These ones are also pretty good... In the yard in the sun... Next weekend I'll also be doing a set of emblems for him, but don't want to build them up quite that thick... Then they'll get sent back to PA so Dave can get stocked up on lotion and paper towels. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
