Two solids that will block out the base... Followed by 3 transparents (this is more or less what the main part of the rust spots will look like.)... Then a skim coat for a better transition into the paint colors... Thats about it for the night... Too much masking to do.
OK they are done... Guess you guys can see them now. Not a bad way to spend a couple days! I'll post pics of the process I used to do this in a bit...
Looks very good, a lot of gold on my MAC monitor, will have to see it in person to get a true color look. You have time for a small clear-coat job? Don
Not much gold on these Don, the yellow is Interchange Yellow (another MINI color)... There is a good amount of light reflected off of the flake and candy though. I've always got time for you Don, but I do need to run and get another 5 gallons of thinner before I do much else though. eMINI, I spent the better part of my last deployment looking for a plain ivory ball shift knob with the correct shift pattern engraved in it... That knob isn't going anywhere.
As promised yesterday here's a few pictures of how this was done after the base rust went on... First up was getting the bunny out of the garage! These damn things are getting brave! Then it was all the masking for the CAUTION stripes, followed by that coat of Interchange Yellow... After that set a few minutes, the tape was pulled off, and a coat of Astro Black went on... Then after a full drying period, it was time to bust out the sand paper and go to town! Just keep going deeper through the layers until you get the look you want... When you get to the right look, then its just a quick round with the clearcoat and you're done! Time consuming, but well worth it!
Let me know when you get 5 gallons of thinner, just need the Dragon covered with some clear on the helmet. Thanks.... Btw, must be all the sunlight you get when taking pictures that makes the yellow look like gold. Actually it is gold level work.
If my dogs were there you would have no bunny issues. They keep all the critters of of the yard. The one even digs up an occasional shrew.
One rabbit stew coming right up.... [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcxKIJTb3Hg"]Holy Grail - Killer Bunny - YouTube[/ame]
Catch that rabbit.... Apply your special paint process.... Name that rabbit "Rusty".... Now you have a shop critter... Done...
