Yep, I took the Rat up and picked them up from Kristan this afternoon, going to be working on her mirrors all week after work.
He's doing a Sistine chapel roof graphic for me when he's done with the mirror caps. It'll look better than the original by that Nigerian painter, that Micheal A. Ngelo dude (or whatever his name was).
Work has officially started on Chris Chappel's rust sculpture! Had to call in the big guns at work... This piece might be scrap, or I might use it... Who knows! This brake rotor will serve as the base for his project... Lots of fabricating to do!
The pretty lady's mirrors: Take 2... Starting off with a touch of heavy splatter around the bottom edge, then a good coating of that very special pure white base...
And done for the night... Waiting for it to set, so I can pull the Rat back in. The patina around the edges will be a bit heavier this time around... Tomorrow comes the stencils and blue's... Hopefully I can get a good chunk done before she gets here... That way she doesn't have to sit around and watch me work all night! This time around I will be shooting the flake mid day Saturday, so its nice and hot in the garage when I do it!
I saw something like your technique recently used for painting a model tank. I would think the scale would have to be big enough to survive the multiple coats of paint. They used a chipping fluid from AK Interactive instead of sanding the base coat. I guess from the walk through this was previously done with hair spray.
I've heard of people using water, and spraying paint over top of that to get nice sharp bubbles/edges of rust spots, but haven't tried it yet.
Thanks minirab! Its hard not to be good at something you love doing! Kinda like Dave and pissing people off!
Didn't update last night, I stay off my phone while Erin is here. However, the first 3 snowflakes and the Ford New Grabber Blue went on last night... Yes the smaller flakes are 1/2" bigger than they were on attempt #1! It fills the canvas a bit more.
