I did not serve, in my formative years I gave it a passing thought but it was just not for me. I do appreciate the sacrifice others have made on my behalf and thank you profusely for doing a job I cannot do.

:biggrin5:Had the amazing privilege tonight of shaking hands with and giving a hug to Don Wipple. He fought in the battle of Iwo Jima. He still speaks at local schools and events. The book "More than 36 days" authored by Caren Barrela and the movie "Final Return to Iwo Jima", a documentary, are of Don. And what is so cool is, he lives in my neighborhood!:biggrin5:

Jason won't tell on himself but he was in the Elite Green Berets and I would be willing to bet his record has a lot of blacked out lines on it cause in "reality" they never were there even though they probably were.As he was a medic in the SF he is probably more knowledgeable then a lot of nurses and docs...

With all these Army and Navy guys hanging about and one or two spooks, feel like a foreigner.
USAF 1966-1970, Combat Photographer, Medical Photographer, Lab Photographer for SAC, 544th Air Recon Wing, detached duty to SEA area with Army, Marines and other groups.
For a fact, I never set foot in Vietnam, there is good and bad in that statement.

I was actually assigned to a LORAN station for my first deployment and I then had choice of duty for my next assignment. Would have been an adventure. I kind of regret never having served, but then again my wife keeps reminding me that we would have never met......good/bad?-

My best friend from high school got this training at Ft. Wolters and then I
think to Ft. Rucker. All I know he was in Nam the same time as I was and
we did manage to see each other a couple of times. For the last six months
of his tour he was a Cobra pilot up north and believe me he had some stories
to tell. Thank god he made it back ok.-

Totally agree. My dad did a tour in Vietnam, so I did quite a bit of reading and watching documentaries on the war. I always wondered how he put up with the very poor attitude of the American people. IMHO I think the Vietnam Vets had a lot to do with how Gulf War Vets were treated when we came back, not to mention all the support we received while we were there. It was a good feeling knowing people appreciated what we were doing.-
