:cornut: Could have been all for the better. My Coastie friends tell me that there is no more dangerous place to be than on a boat at the mouth of Columbia River where it enters the Pacific with a vengeance and that's perhaps where you would have been stationed.

:cornut: You have got to have friends in high places. How in the heck did you ever secure an Army posting to Brussels, Belgium? :drool:arf:

:cornut: Ah yes, the politically correct Arabian Gulf NEVER to be called the politically incorrect Persian Gulf which steps on politically sensitive toes. Man we had to put up with a lot of 'stuff'.(thanks for your service and this wasn't directed at Gil-galad)

:cornut: Ft Wolters in Mineral Wells, TX would have probably been your basic rotary wing flight training. Sadly it's now a Federal Correctional Institute(prison).:frown2:

No it was a long time ago and a different time. Sometimes I think we need it

back. The young guys now really missed something and I have friends my age

that didn't serve that do realize now that they missed something worthwhile.

:cornut: Yes I saw that a lot with the elderly(hey that's now me:lol:) gentlemen that I saw in civilian private practice. I'd say don't worry about it, you could have gotten killed and they'd say, " but what do you tell your grand children on Memorial Day when the big parade goes by and they ask you why you weren't in the service." I couldn't answer that one.

With all these Army and Navy guys hanging about and one or two spooks, feel like a foreigner. ;)

USAF 1966-1970, Combat Photographer, Medical Photographer, Lab Photographer for SAC, 544th Air Recon Wing, detached duty to SEA area with Army, Marines and other groups.

For a fact, I never set foot in Vietnam, there is good and bad in that statement.

On Memorial Day weekend 2013 our company provided a discount for service members. We would give the discount when asked and say thank you for your service. I had the pleasure of ringing up a man and his female companion. I stated "Thank you for your service", at the end of the transaction. With eyes full of tears, he said thank you for saying that. No one has ever said that to me since I have returned from Vietnam. I have seen him once since and I am humbled and fortunate for the opportunity to meet him.

The Pacific NW is actually (or was) the most requested duty. No lack of adventure.

I was actually assigned to a LORAN station for my first deployment and I then had choice of duty for my next assignment. Would have been an adventure. I kind of regret never having served, but then again my wife keeps reminding me that we would have never met......good/bad? :D

I have had good experience with all the different US forces, Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines. I have tried and still tell people that no matter how much crap we (different branches of the military) give each other, what matters most in time of need is that we remember it says US before it says anything. SO wwe will bail each other out if it needs to be done.
