I have to ask seeing I am a little ignorant when it comes to Army terminology, what’s ah 63Charlie? I am curious seeing you mentioned you were Armored Calvary. My Dad was with the 4th out of Fort Riley in 64’ as a tank mech. It was important to me when I started my career in the Corps that my first unit was a Tank Bn, swung it so a Tank Bn was my last unit when I retired.
Back in the day, those were the codes for our Military Occupation Specialty or MOS. For example "67" was aviation and "N" was a UH-1 helicopter, so a mechanic on a Huey was a 67N. "95" was military police and patrol was "95B" and corrections was "95C" . I always kept as far away as I could from the MOS "11B" (eleven bush) which was a grunt.
Your are right Friskie. I knew that and it is exactly why I did NOT join the Marines. There was a questionnaire we had to complete in basic, with sneaky questions scattered through it, like "were you a Boy Scout", "do you like to go hiking", "do you like to camp out". I'm not stupid, so I said NO to everyone of them.
Thanks! Very true, some more than others! I liked being in units with lots of rolling stock, can't see humping when you can roll there. :biggrin5: LOL!
Good thing too because a Scout is Trustworthy and a few other sometimes inconvenient things. I always thought Resourceful should have been the 13th point of the Scout Law. Then I was reminded that Trustworthy and Obedient would interfere with that 'pon occasion.
I'll have you know I was completely "trustworthy" Friskie. I could always be "trusted" to do something...........be it right, wrong or indifferent, which often took a degree of resourcefulness .
Active Army here: 1991-1995 Ft Richardson, AK 1995-2003 Reserves, Ft Meade 2003-current AGR, Maryland Army National Guard, Adelphi, MD. MOSs: 91X. - Maintenance Supervisor and 42A - Admin NCO. I'm staying for 20 active then relaxing.
I am a PPR (permanent physical reject) from all US Armed forces - and somewhere I have the appeal rejection letter from the U.S. Army Surgeon General that told me. I respect all those that can and/or would serve.
Boy - I went over to the Vet's forum as suggested by Rick. I posted a couple of comments and then realized most of the threads died in 2011! Wow! Pat
Yea, it's kinda hard to swap sea stories from a keyboard and there's a real possibility that you could find yourself drinking alone. :beer
