"Left"?...more like run out of town, but he does a heck of a job with Roundel and his columns are almost always a great read. I'll be the first to admit it's changed a lot over the years including now be AutoEveryOtherWeek instead of weekly. This does have the effect of making the motor sports coverage about useless. That's a real shame being this publication started life as a broadsheet named Competition Press. I still remember when it went from a newspaper format to magazine and rue the day they did that. Sure the pictures are better on glossy paper but there is something intangible about newsprint, plus it made a great window cleaner after being read.
LOL.....thus the quotes! I had no idea he was writing for Roundel. Any online access to his columns? Yep, I remember the old paper days. In fact up until the last move I still had about 3 yrs worth of the old paper copies. The race coverage was the original draw for me as it was really the only way to get any decent coverage of non-US races.
Just subscribed with the link and price was 14.00! First page said 1 yr. 16.00,but next page at checkout was only 14 bucks. This is a deal for Auto Week.
Wow...it's 2011 and just renewed my subscription through this thread and it was $14. I think that can fly under the wife's radar.
I found out about Satch at Roundel when I bought my MINI. I e-mailed him and thanked him for his Autoweek columns. He wrote back and we had a nice little conversation. I have a grocery sack full of his columns from the tabloid days. Kept every one of them.
Now if he'd just get off his high horse about the BMW CCA allowing MINI owners in...grrrrr I still like his style and just renewed my CCA membership. Heres to hoping the Buckeye Chapter is just as MINI friendly for DE's and the Lone Star chapter has been.
Buckeye BMW CCA is VERY MINI friendly! Oh, there are a few oldtimers who cling to the past, but I have never found anyone there in the last 6 years I've been a member who looks down on the MINI. You'll be welcome there.
I'd have to agree with Jeff, the Buckaroo BMW CCA does not seem to mind our little hot hatches. I'd have to say they liked my MINI more than I like their BMWs. I enjoy reading Satch. Don't really give a rats arse about what he likes or doesn't.
This deal is now over. My subscription is up so I thought I would see if the code still worked (it did last year). It doesn't. I'm letting my subscription drop. Being in Canada, the subscription price is $75 for one year. A bit too rich for me.
As a follow-up to my post from February where my subscription should have lapsed, it is now the second half of May and I continue to receive issues of Autoweek. I did not renew. But still got an issue in the mail just yesterday.
