There were many fads with stripes back in the sports car days on the 60's. One was two off set rally spripes down the driver's side. One went down to the bumper and the other took a turn part way down the hood and curved to the oppsite side of the bumper. Actually look kind of cool.

I don't like the way they look on the MINI but saw the same stripe on a vintage image of a Group 44 race car recently and can see how they looked good at some point.

 

Move it back a bit, have it match the line of the beltline and then blend it into a pinstripe on the side that helps hide the side scuttle and door handle and it might actually look pretty good

As it is? Ugly.
