Oh? Then I stand corrected. I sort of have a chip on my shoulder when it comes to certain subjects.... Just a reflex action from too much NAM... Sorry all....
^ As a smart arse myself sometimes I fall victim to others not understanding my twisted humor. It happens to others too, Blimey is a great guy. M/A is a great place to be.
^^^ My sense of humor usually ends up pissing someone off too... Thanks for the insight. And now back to the regularly scheduled program...
Ha! I thought we were having a friendly discussion too..... My point remains the same tho, and other than personal preference I still haven't heard one firm reason why a stick is inherently better than an Auto trans in a MINI, nor why someone driving an otherwise equal stick could "clean my clock". As to automatics not being race worthy, I point to Chaparral, which used what was widely regarded as the slushiest slushbox ever made - the 2 speed Powerglide - quite successfully. That's also the transmission of choice for most drag racers - rather than a stick. Shifts faster is the reason usually given...... Again, I'm not arguing either for or against either transmission choice, my point has always been that it's personal preference - that one is NOT inherently better than the other, and to call out the stick snobs who insist otherwise. Motor on.......
Sometimes I like going out to a restaurant and I let the chef cook my meal.... When I'm home... I do the cooking. All my vehicles are automatics..... Except the MINI.... For me..... The MINI puts the biggest smile on my face when I'm rowing through the gears..... I still like eating at restaurants.....
Drag racing is of no interest to me. Dressing in women's clothes is just kind of creepy to me. Yes Jim Hall was quite the innovator. I do not recall his Chaparral cars with the powerglide winning any championships. I think something with a manual might have won the championship, but I could be wrong.
At least the COP did not give them a ticket, or did he?? Screamingly funny! If those of you who like to pull levers and push pedals then try driving an early Caterpillar bulldozer! You get to a point of hands and feet being a blur of motion going from reverse to whatever gear you choose in forward, while turning... When I built this my only regret was that it was NOT an automatic. To much time wasted shifting...
You got to admit that an "auto GP" on the Dragon (or surrounding area) would be a lot easier. Your hands and feet can get very confused on those roads. Jim
Your response made me laugh. Long running inside joke... see, I was "you" on the "sewing site" in the 2006-2007 time frame. The original MINI auto tranny crusader. Spent way too much energy fighting that battle back in the day. Now I just laugh every time it comes up. It's all good.
Blimey - Thank goodness you guys are a forgiving bunch. I am one of those crusader types too, but occasionally my launch button malfunctions and I stupidly inflict well meaning comrades with friendly fire. Many apologies. By the way.... nice skull "shift" knob.
