When I wash our cars I wipe down the around the door frames and the doors themselves with a MF cloth On both of our MINI's there is a oily schmutz that collects at the bottom corner both cars In this photo the lower left corner Closeup Closeup on the wifes Is this the dreaded Cosmoline? If so I'm sure some Cosmonot will take care of it. Thoughts on what it is and what I can take it off with? Simple Green perhaps?
Could be Cosmoline. If it is, Simple Green won't touch it. I have some Cosmonot, a life time supply:lol:, next event we are both at I could bring it along. Cosmoline has a dark yellow/green kind of colour to it. If Simple Green does take it off, it is likely just smutze weeping out of the door. Mark
It seems more like a grease. I'll try the 4:1 water/simple green I use for engine detailing and go from there
OMG... if you guys are fixating on THAT, I need you to come over to my house and I'll give you some REAL work to focus your mad OCD skillz upon.
I wouldn't call it 'fixated'..... more like 'mildly annoyed' but yes my MINI OCDness knows just about no bounds! ut:
I try to balance my fixation between the car, the house, the pets and my husband..... Sometimes it works out, sometimes, not so much
I hear ya G-Friend, oh I hear ya One wife, 2 MINI's, 1 Dog, 3 Cats and a House to maintain is a juggling act
LOL- we have 6 cats (that's NOT a typo), and a rottweiler. One of our cats is special needs, and we have to give her fluids via IV every day. There's a lot to always do/clean up  But back on topic- I think that stuff is Cosmoline related (maybe Cosmoline + grime from the road?)
Try one wife, three cats, four dogs, 10 horses, one house, one barn and the Mini. I just looked and I have the same stuff on my door. Never noticed it before, so thanks a lot for pointing something else out. Jim
We just put our diabetic cat down so I can relate (RIP Spot) I'll try the Simple Green this weekend. From what Lotsie is saying it that it won't touch it if it's Cosmoline
