Not Chuck and me. All we did was to state that, even though it's a nice car, we did not like it, and so, all the stoning began from you all in the Peanut Gallery.

wmwny Well-Known MemberCould be worse, I guess. You could be driving an Abarth!

wmwny Well-Known MemberSorry. I guess touchiness arises when non-R53 owners start taking potshots meant in fun. Unfortunately, however, some comments on here are meant to ridicule one's personal choice and I WILL take issue.
I am loyal to the cars that I own. I bought the R50, an early '03, used in early '04. My two R53s are '06es. The R50 was the first MINI I had owned since my teenage years ['59 Morris Mini Minor]. I was smitten by the fact that BMW would buy Rover and breathe new life into an old name. I am now a Silverback, and, that said, am a "bit" larger than I was at 17 years old...so I fit well into my "new" MINIs, as they are larger, too. -
Crashton Club CoordinatorIt's Al Gore's fault. The power of the internet.....

Is there anything that you liked better about it than the R53? Would you buy an 8+ year old R53 over a new F56 if you still had to do the amount of daily driving that you use to? It would be interesting to see your pros/cons of the F56 against the R53/R56 and even thoughts about how it stacks up against the R58 and R60 (not that these are exactly apple to apple in purpose).

Good thoughts B.A.D. I would like to hear some pros and cons too, rather then just cons.
I am on the road a lot, so I need a newer car. Otherwise I would be driving a Healey 3000.

The F56 Crashton drove was a Cooper and not an S. It was also an automatic and not a stick. For a Cooper, it had great acceleration, but it cannot be compared to an F56 S. However, as with my own R50, as compared to my own R53, the F56 Cooper is VERY nimble and I daresay probably more nimble than the F56 S, too, because of the weight difference. Stopping distance seemed very good [and you KNOW Crashton beat the hell out of it just to see how it stopped]. The auto-stop-start engine, when stopped at first was a tad unnerving, but will save on fuel in the long runs. I wonder how much the battery will drain and how fast replacement will occur. I also think that starter must be huge!
So, there ya are, Jim. See, even I CAN offer some positives.....

Thank you Jeff. Is the auto-start-stop an option or standard? Did you get a chance to hit the highway. My R56 Justa, turns 75 mph around three grand where the R56 S does it much lower. Can you comment of the low end torque?
-
Good to know....
I know my r53 will not last forever (I love it, but all things must end someday)...and the better mpg of the cooper is likely what I'll end up going for...just trying to get acclimated to the look...the idea that the turbo 3 cylinder could be tuned in the future...makes me kinda wonder.... -
N2MINI MINI of the Month
That's what I'm thinking. How much more if any is left on the bone for the turbo 3!!! Sure your not going to catch up to a stock S car but if there somehow someway was another 25-35 HP in there.......so when is this engine going to be available in the Coupe?

I like the extra security of AWD, but I know how to use it. (You drive 'em like a sprint car!) There will always be an AWD vehicle in my garage as long as I live in a part of the country where the sky squirts nasty stuff without warning.

Ft MYers Mini had a Justa in last week and I saw it going through the transport service and it is very ugly. Guess they just got in an S yesterday. I have to have windo seal replaced today on my R56, so I am curious to see the new ugly duck F56S.

actually yes I did but now seeing them again in person, I am calling them a pregnant guppy. I watched them use the park assistance on the S model and it's all well and good, for those who do not know how to parallel park, but DAMN it takes to long for it to park. It was liking watching the old snowbirds here in Florida walk across the parking lot at Walmart. Even with that, I am still not a HUGE fan of the car.

wmwny Well-Known MemberWell, DUH, Jim. Nathan drives an R53, and many R53 owners left NAM, perhaps in part because of that fact. Guess that means you'll be headed back to NAM now?
