Good to know.... I know my r53 will not last forever (I love it, but all things must end someday)...and the better mpg of the cooper is likely what I'll end up going for...just trying to get acclimated to the look...the idea that the turbo 3 cylinder could be tuned in the future...makes me kinda wonder....
That's what I'm thinking. How much more if any is left on the bone for the turbo 3!!! Sure your not going to catch up to a stock S car but if there somehow someway was another 25-35 HP in there.......so when is this engine going to be available in the Coupe?
But that is just for those that don't know how to drive a two wheeled drive car correctly in any weather right? (RWD or FWD) Since 4 wheel drive (AWD) is for soccer Moms in little SUV's that need to park half way on someone's lawn so little Johnny and Mommy don't have to walk so far to the field because they are running late again. They don't want to get stuck on the lawn. AWD is great but in the end it uses more fuel and isn't fuel mileage why most new MINI owners buy an MINI. It sure as hell cant be for the looks. Or are you talking about real rally drivers? Ok rant over, MOTOR ON, Ooops carry on
We use our four wheel drive for parking in pastures at horse shows, that can tend to be muddy and none of your horses play soccer. AWD is a must, when one lives on a farm.
It's a must if you park in the paddock at Nelson Ledges on a rainy day. I used to get asked why I had a 4WD tow rig. Once it rained the other guys figured it out.
Ok your situations are both different and require AWD 4 Wheel drive I agree. But do Soccer Moms need AWD? Do so many people in this country need 4 or AWD? :rolleyes5: Nope, no farms in the big cities like NYC. People buy it because it will make them better drivers and they will be safer in ice and snow storms and we all know that's not true. How many AWD SUV's did we all pass this winter in out little 2wd MINI's? (Lots)
To me, the bigger issue with the average AWD driver is braking in crummy weather. That's why I enjoy seeing so many SUVs in the ditch during snowstorms. Lack of driver skill really shows when people assume their AWD rigs will slow in the snow as well as they go in the snow. I won't do it again because it's too stressful on my aging body, but I made it through the entire winter on the OEM summer runflats on my JCW. That required a light touch!
I agree completely Dave. It is amazing how many you see in the city, with head light guards, push bars etc, that have never left the pavement. My old boss, in Baltimore, called them "Urban Assault Vehicles".
Some of us actually have a use for 4WD or AWD though... Two wheel (front or rear) isnt going to get me to where I want to go on the weekends... Also had an EVO VIII, that had AWD so it could make better use of all that power. Not saying there is going to be any F56's running around with 500 or more HP to need it, but it would be nice. Or they could just put AWD in the F56 to make sure you can get it to the edge of the cliff before making it less ugly!
I like the extra security of AWD, but I know how to use it. (You drive 'em like a sprint car!) There will always be an AWD vehicle in my garage as long as I live in a part of the country where the sky squirts nasty stuff without warning.
Justa Jim don't you know this is the age of knowing how to get things done? Just pop a blue pill and hitch those horses to your truck and let them pull you out of the mud.
