My early '03 [Sept. '02 build] R50 CVT has just under 55k miles on it and in the forums, many have R50 CVTs with well over 100k miles. I have had the car since Feb., '04, when I bought it used with just over 2,000 miles on it. So, 10 years and 53k miles later, you are telling me the CVT won't hold up? It has been to MOTD several times, and has gone through 2 Phil Wicks' 2-day HPDEs. Like I said earlier, I drive it mostly to shows now and average just over 5k miles yearly on it. I keep it dealer serviced. Last year was its final MOTD. Personally, I think it is holding up quite well. rrr: Like I said earlier, at this rate, I'll still have mine [and in running order] long after you dump Foggy. :lol:
Since when is giving one's personal opinion on the F56 "bashing and trolling"? I suppose you want everyone to just lie about the car, huh? Well, I think it IS a MINI, ok? It's just not a MINI I would like to buy, given the "trolling and bashing" personal opinions others and I have done. I certainly do not "set the overall tone of this forum" when I state what I feel. If others agree with me...fine, and if not...fine, too. It all boils down to a matter of choice...but PLEASE do not label anyone just because he may have a different opinion than yours. :frown2:
Don't worry about your CVT. I've heard repair parts are becoming available should the need arise. :smilewinkgrin:
I'm not worried about the CVT. True, others have had pretty serious issues but, I keep my car serviced regularly and its "days of thunder" have pretty much settled down into going to and from British car shows, and occasional drives on nice days. My MCSa, on the other hand, sees about every type of driving save racing, but it's not a CVT.
Like anything else if you follow the money... IB is a broad vertically integrated entity. In the Automotive/Truck vertical they play both sides of the fence. Not only do they have many forums they also run Cars.com and some other entities that in their words "...provide the automotive industry with crucial data technology solutions and connect auto dealers with in-market buyers." With that in mind they are just like the car magazines where you can't bite the hand that feeds you. They do the same thing in the Health, Legal, Home and Travel verticals. They are corporate bullies and very litigious. They even went after the Wikimedia Foundation. I saw the handwriting on the wall 5 years ago with how the deal for NAM went down with Mark F. It's not the way I do business. If you want to know more, start looking over the articles cited in the Wiki entry for IB. Internet Brands - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. But back to the F56. I've yet to see one in person. Once I do then I can render an opinion based on fact.
Jeff, you have stated several times that you are concerned about the life of your CVT tranny and that is why I said what I said, but only in jest. Don't try and back peddle now. I got ya fair and square.
Very true, Jim. I HAVE said that, mostly because of what I hear, read and have heard others say about the CVT and its problems. I did have a tranny problem when I first got the Cooper, but found it was a defective pan that got thru the company inspectors when the car was built and into MY garage. I took it to the dealer and they fixed it about 50k miles ago. I have not had a problem since. That's not to say I'll end up being one of the "fortunate few" with the 100+k miles, but right now, it's looking pretty good. I think the key is to keep all the fluids changed and checked often. That said, your Justa may be faster...and then, maybe not. Yours is modded, but so is mine. However, I will STILL keep mine longer that you will yours, especially since you are looking at an F56 now.:ihih:
Man...PLEASE do NOT twist MY rubber band...ewwwww...:eek6: Ohhhhh..the pain...the embarrassment of a tear and a leak....:frown2::arf:
