Hi what I can’t understand that if the crank bolt wasn’t tightened to the 180 degrees and the crank gear slipped when I set the timing up both cams had moved equal amounts but how it managed to just bend all exhaust valves is beyond me ??
Well it's good you found the cause but damn I feel for you all that work has to be redone over a misprinted torque spec just sucks. At least you know it'll be good next round. Only bent the exhaust because of the way slipping effected valve timing the direction it slipped (Retarded) actually gives the intake more clearance they won't start opening until the piston is down the bore further. But the exhaust will still be open (closing late/retarded) when the piston gets to them.
Hi Jeff thanks for the info and the torque settings would you happen to have the torque settings for the cyl head stretch bolts?
Torque center bolts first then work outwards. M8 x 35mm 30 Nm (22.1 ft-lb) M8 x 95mm stage 1 - 15 Nm (11 ft-lb) stage 2 - additional 90 degrees stage 3 - additional 90 degrees M10 x 145mm stage 1 - 30 Nm (22.1 ft-lb) stage 2 - additional 90 degrees stage 3 - additional 90 degrees Use new bolts
Sounds like you're not aware of these procedures, complete with torque specs --- https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/ Use the last seven characters of your VIN to ensure the correct versions.
Hi Jeff all has went well so far just the cams to fit and timing to set up on Sunday one thing I did find when I had the head on it’s side was a small spring which I think fell out the hole on the vac pump which mates with the exhaust cam should there be anything else like a ball bearing or just the spring it was oily and a perfect fit for that hole regards willie
No springs in that area that I have ever seen do you have a picture. Might want to take apart the pump and inspect it. If that thing locks up you'll be doing this again.
Hi Jeff I’ve found it where it came from when taking the head off and taking all the hydraulic lifters out didn’t realise until I was fitting them one actually came apart so the spring must go in there I’m going to strip another just to check that’s all that goes in there
There should be a valve disk as well it may still be in the smaller part of the lifter. Looking at another is a good idea to make sure you get it right.
Got a message from Williamc that the car is up and running fine. I hate threads with no end so I messaged him to see.
