Hey Matt, when you get your engine out you have to take a picture like this.
P.S.
I have a puller for the clutch if you need one. It is a Mini Puller and works great. If you need anything give me a shout. I am happy to help out if I can.

HA! Too. Effing. Awesome! Love it!
I'd definitely love to have you around for the pull and the re-installation later in the spring if you'd care to join us. I'm just working out the details on all the parts - Paul in Dayton has most of them but a few will need to be ordered from 7Ent. or MiniMania or somewhere. And we need to clear my bench -there's a friend's motorcycle engine up there ATM that needs to be completed.
I'll probably end up yanking it out right after I get back from my honeymoon in early March - I'd LIKE to pull it before the wedding (Amy and I are getting hitched on Feb. 18), but I'm not sure if I'll get to it before then, obviously. Given the tight timeframes, I'll take ANY AND ALL help I can get from people who have done this sort of work before, in the hopes that I can get the thing put back together and actually, you know, ROLLING UNDER ITS OWN POWER come spring/summer. I hope. I hope...
Can you send me your phone number to my email? It's "imagox(at)yahoo(dot)com". I'd love your help and expert advice when I hoist the thing - I'll be getting my lift and engine stand this week! Actually, if ANYONE in the Columbus area wants to drop by to lend a hand or just to sit in the peanut gallery, beer in hand, to observe the process, email me your info as well and I'll let you know when I have a date for the pull. The car is in east Columbus near Noe-Bixby Rd. and that's where we'll be doing the work. -
PS - you don't happen to have a HIF38 carb on your car by any chance, do you? I'd left the linkage on the carb for the choke cable, so didn't take a picture of which hole on the mounting plate it was in (rookie mistake, I know), and then the pin somehow fell out while I was cleaning everything.
I have the cable linkage pin, but the exploded diagram in the Haynes book and even the one on the SU website doesn't actually show HOW that pin was secured (I think it had a second small threaded screw that threaded into the actual cable pin) or WHICH hole (of three possible choices) it was supposed to be in. Doh!!! -

Sometimes you have to be like Sherlock Homes, when putting things back together!

And you're right, a small screw goes into the pin securing the cable to the pin and keeping it in the hole on the carb linkage - it's actually pretty clever.

Hey matt, just wondering how everything is going with the engine? just thinking about you, let me know if you need anything. I have mine at the Machine shop getting some work done. I hope to have it back in a week or so then back in the car after that.

OK, so I'm back from my honeymoon in Prague and Budapest (photos will be coming soon), and I'm ready to get on this! I'm hoping to pull the engine NEXT WEEKEND (March 10... which is also my birthday)... anyone want to be there for the event? I'm hoping Jason is free, as I know someone with experience on-hand will make a HUGE difference, but anyone who's curious is more tan welcome to join us! The car is on the east side on Noe-Bixby Rd. - LMK if you're interested by dropping me a line at:

OK, so actually, we're doing it NEXT SUNDAY (the 11th) - Jason's available to help (thank God). Anyone who's ever been curious to see a classic Mini eviscerated before their very eyes and/or fascinated when grown men cry (me... not Jason, I'm sure :cryin
, is welcome to come by! PM me for the address and time...

If I can find a ride I'll pop in...otherwise, good luck and godspeed.

So, did you get it out? Where are the pics? any blood spilled along the way? :biggrin5:
I don't remember if I mentioned it before, and it's probably too late now, but I always advise taking lots of pics before you disassemble something complicated. For the inexperienced mechanic (and sometimes even for an experienced one) they can be invaluable when you start putting it together again! Little things like how and where wires are run, what color wire goes on which side of the coil, how that spring went on the throttle linkage and so on, especially if the car will be down for a while.
Good luck! -

Anybody know where I can find a nice cooler? Thinking about making a tribute to the leaning tower of Pizza... ohh looks like someone already did it

Yes, but where did the little Mini motor go?

I think you have to keep your intercooler in a cooler if you remove it from the engine.
