Might not be such a bad thing if it did. What's the mileage? You'll prolly fit into the class action... Just leave it, drive the piss out of it until it splodes, then get yeh a new motor breh.
Otherwise just throw the longer tensioner in there first ($30). If that doesn't fix it then get a chain and guide kit. -
105, 000 miles, was driven for 3 hours from where we bought to our home .

The tensioner ended up being the least of my woes -
Anything happened? You ever get it fixed?

I would go with my suggertion...

The longer tensioner fixed mine... I peeped the guides when I did my valve cover and they were fine. Looked like they were done before..
The engine had a line of other issues and I opted to replace the chain as a preventative measure while the engine was apart in case it stretched.
You'll prolly be fine with the tensioner it's a 10 minute job. Check the vids on YouTube -
How hard is it to replace. I've never worked on mini. Only nissans

I would listen to metalman. Don't drive it till you fix it. How good are you at doing your own work? If you have the skills to work on the engine of your car then you can probably do it yourself. If not take it to the dealer.

Welcome to MA...great site and greater people. I'm not a mechanic, don't even play one on the internet, but I wish you a lot of luck with your engine.

Y'all mini owners are pretty cool. Definitely different from the Nissan forums in a good way!

Don't drive it. Buy this: https://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2007-Cooper-R56-S-Coupe-L4_1.6L_N14B16A/Engine/Timing/ES1898203/. Install it. If noise goes away you're ok. For now. You may still need the chain, guides, and sprockets.

My car had 2 chains replaced until that new tensioner came out. Noise started coming back. Installed new tensioner, noise has been gone for 11,000 hard miles. That being said, oil gets changed every 3k miles or so. No taking chances with oil. Of course I'm taking lots of chances just driving a N14....
