    My car had 2 chains replaced until that new tensioner came out. Noise started coming back. Installed new tensioner, noise has been gone for 11,000 hard miles. That being said, oil gets changed every 3k miles or so. No taking chances with oil. Of course I'm taking lots of chances just driving a N14....

    The latest chain tensioner is P/N is 11 31 7 607 551 for the N-14 engine...


    Give the good folks over at http://www.eminiparts.com/ a call... They are good people and they support the MINI forum...

    Took it in to the dealer ship to see if it was still covered under the mini extended warrenty. Girl on the phone did yes until 2017. Bring it in the guy says no it's 100,000 miles or 7 years whatever comes first ha. As far of what they found was yes the timing chain has stretched. Waiting for warrenty people to find true price. They only cover up to 1000. Hope it's not too much more than that. Also they said it needs to be decarbon used reprogrammed and fuel injectors cleaned which comes to about 1021.00 as of right now before they even touch the timing chain.

    If they give you stink about being 5,000 over... Be courteous and ask them about their "goodwill"....

    That carbon blast will be good to get done for sure at your milage....

    Hint: Only use full synthetic oil... and top tier hi test gasoline...

    First of all, did u drive it to the dealer?

    Second, call around and go get the work done at an Indy shop that does walnut blasting. It should be $500-600 to get the valves cleaned... Timing chain kit is $300, idk the labor for that...


    The shop that put my engine together does all that programming crap as well so I know it can be done outside of a dealer...

    Congratulations on your new mini! Now pull out your wallet and bend over...

    Full synthetic means ACEA rated a3-b3 BMW longlife 01 oil... (Liquimoly leichtlauf high tech, BMW twin power turbo)

    Not the "fully synthetic" hydrocracked a1-b1 trash at Walmart...

    My car found out the difference between API and ACEA ratings/oils the hard way :nonod:

    Sometimes the dealership is best because they include a 2 year parts and LABOR warrenty. :Thumbsup:

    Also labor rate is 125.00 -150.00 billed flat rate since BMW /MINI shops are all UNION shops.

    Yeah I will definitely ask about their goodwill. Their labor rate is 140/hr, I expected nothing less from a dealership, but my warrenty will cover 85/hr and up to 1000 of the cost. I figured it would be expensive. This is the first I've ever heard of walnut blasting. Usually just throw some injector cleaner or seafoam in my truck before I got my rear main seal leak, but that's a whole nother can of worms.

    Injector cleaner or seafoam will not work on a any direct injection motor like yours because the fuel never passes the back of the valves so it cannot wash the carbon deposits away.

    Direct injection puts fuel directly in the cylinder just like spark plug is only in the cyclinder.

    You dump the sea foam down the pcv tube into intake. Still doesn't work tho..

    I bet the op drove the car to the dealer. Shocking it didn't disintegrate on the way... I win :ihih:

    .... But the 0w-40 Mobil at BalMart is ACEA A3/B3 rated.... or at least was. I went with liquimoly on my last change as well.

    Shops don't need to be union to bill flat rate. Every dealer I've worked at bills flat rate. Alllllso Not all BMW/MINI shops are union. The BMW dealer locally is no longer union. In fact a Union shop in Iowa is nearly dead and gone.

    I understand the flat rate part I was stating that most MINI shops are Union. Every single one on the East Coast is.

    Yeah the one that was local sucked. We had a lot car under warranty in for a repair at their shop (when they were still union). While it was there the battery died. Now keep in mind this vehicle was under warranty. They had to jump start the car with a jump pack. probably a 2 minute job if you had to walk across the shop and back to get the pack. They charged us $25 to jump start the vehicle so the tech could work on it!!! I can't speak about any other shop unions only this one I dealt with. But obviously it was poorly run since it fell apart.
