Eric Jones was THE GUY if you had a British car that needed fixed in the Ohio and neighboring states. He and Crashton were great friends and organized this drive for other like minded souls. They both rallied in Ohio so they know all the best back roads and make simply the best routes available.

A few years ago Eric passed away, I believe from cancer, and while the River Run lives on it added a charity bent where we all pay a nominal fee for a route map and the money goes to cancer research. The Buckeye Miata and Ohio British Car Clubs all pitch in to help and it is just a fantastic experience.

For me the best part is just spending a day out on the back roads with like minded people. There is always a great lunch break option (personally the hot dog joint was my favorite to date) and each year I have ended up talking with some interesting people who usually have some odd ball car. Last year I talked to a guy who was pissing people off because he was driving a Viper under the speed limit and holding up traffic, what made him awesome to me was he had his son in the car so he was driving carefully so as not to scare / kill them both. The year before it was a Cortina that I think was also a father son group only the dad was the passenger (that car sounded amazing I don't think it had a muffler).

The other great thing is usually at some point something crazy happens where a road is closed or a group of people misinterpret the directions and all of the sudden you are driving down a gravel road in a Subaru leaving a dust cloud two counties long not knowing there are 2 or 3 MINIs who decided to follow you.

I could go on for days about this event it is just a great day. Everybody should participate either drive or ride along it is fun to do either.

While I cannot be on this years River Run the James has been very helpful to me. I'd like to add The Climb the Stairs Pool proceeds of $30 please.

I can do a PayPal transfer and cover the fees as well, just let me know where.

    Final Riverrun report from Susan

    Hello,

It has been nearly a month since we enjoyed a lovely day as we drove from Columbus, OH to Augusta, KY on the Ohio River.

Ninety-three cars registered for Riverrun. Thanks to all of you, I have sent a donation of $1,445 to Dr. Miguel Villalona's research fund at The James Cancer Hospital. Dr. Villalona's research is specifically focused on solid tumors such as lung cancer;. Dr. Villalona was Eric's oncologist in 2008 when he was treated for mesothelioma, an occupational disease related to car repair.

Chuck Ashton shared his pictures from Riverrun which are a great reminder of the beautiful day.

The cars that participated in 2014 included:

    British classics 30
    Miata 29
    Other 21
    New mini 7
    Unknown 6

I also want to recognize the organizers and car clubs that support the Riverrun.
    • Chuck Ashton and Bill Atterbury for the route and instructions,
    • Buckeye Miata Club for the printing,
    • North American MGB Register for sponsorship and event insurance.

    Susan

Thanks to all those who came out & enjoyed some of Ohio's fine roads while helping a good cause.

I miss my MINI, but I never miss River Run. Maybe I will see if Jill will let me take her Honda this year :)

    Update

Update, as of today we have 72 folks registered for Eric's Riverrun in all manner of cars.

If you are coming please contact Susan Logan. It is important for us to know so we can plan on how many routes to print.

Hope the weather God's smile on us. :fingerscrossed:

Had a great drive with other Nathan. We made a wrong turn and never caught up to Carol and Pam. Met up with a great group of cars heading down to the river. After lunch we didn't see anyone until 104.

    Thanks Chuck and Bill.
