I think it was this one. Ended up at a business function in Louisville, KY a few weeks back. Had a chance to partake in the spirits. :beer I do enjoy a bit of Maker's Mark now and then, but this time I had a chance to try Pappy Van Winkle 23 year Family Reserve. It was very good. Should be for the price the bar was charging, but one of the best I have had.
While in Puerto Rico, I wanted to pick up some nice rum in the "Duty Free" shops. I did a little rum searching and investigating before I arrived. Got two bottles of Ron del Barrilito (Rum Barrel). This is a sipping rum consumed neat or with a splash of water (NOT as a mixer with coke). It's a blended rum aged for 6-10 years in charred oak barrels. Can't wait to try it. [/IMG]
I hope this isn't going to turn into a discussion about which rum or whatever is best for donut dunking ... :skep:
Dunk your donuts in a well balanced blend of hot coco, Kahlua and Creme de Cacao then try to remember which hand holds the donut. Has anybody found and tried the fairly new rye whisky from Bulleit distilling? Like the Colonel said: "There aren't enough oooo's in smooooth for this stuff".
Bookers is a great Bourbon, filtering is omitted which would remove impurities (one may consider them essential flavors), leaving it in raw & complex character state. I disagree on the "smooth" adjective, high alcohol content by proportion is harsh no matter what the delivery context is. I enjoy Bookers straight, alternating a spoon or two of premium vanilla ice cream between shots. For those who enjoy Liqueurs, a must try is Tuaca, it goes great as mixer as well as a sweet sip on its own. A few drops in a shot of Bourbon or aged Tequila imparts wonderful flavor dimensions. My favorite Margarita blend: hand squeezed orange juice, Tuaca, Grand Marnier. I'm sure it would accompany a warm donut appropriately too. I'm a fan of Gin, the premium high alcohol content brands have their place, but for the perfect Martini, a less intense alcohol character Gin like Taaka is my new favorite. This Tequila can truly be described as delicious http://www.riazul.com/anejo-video.php. Sipping Tequila is enjoyable when it has flavor to savor, throwing back simple Tequilas that require masking with salt & lime is fun too, actually I enjoy true Tequila in just about any way. Save your pennies and try the Riazul Anejo; it will change your concept of the Tequila experience.
Hmmm... I bet that a fairly simple chocolate cake donut would pair excellently with a dark rum of any sort. That sounds kinda good! :arf:
Only posting this because it fits the topic. It should come as no surprise that the Top Gear cast are fans of drink... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDAwPfh_62s]Jeremy's Drinks Cabinet - Top Gear Outtakes - BBC - YouTube[/ame]
The Twelve Days of Whisk(e)y, According to the Masters It looks like it's just one of those slideshows (which it is) but each page has a link from the short slideshow summary to somewhat longer review.
Tito's Handmade Vodka.... I'm pretty excited about trying Tito's.... Made from yellow corn instead of the more common wheat or potatoes... Micro-distilled 6 times... Has really gotten good reviews.... Made in Austin Texas.... That's still a part of the USA, right... Yeah, I think so...
