My favorite rum is Pusser's Pusser's Rum For a long time, they didn't sell it in Washington State, so I had to special order it by the case. Now whenever relatives visit from Oregon they bring me a bottle. Dave
I think I mentioned a few pages back but another really good sippin' rum is Mount Gay Eclipse. Careful of that one though, you can taste the calories.
Absinthe Has anyone tried Pernod Absinthe? Been meaning to try some.... They went back to the original wormwood recipe...
Not distilled spirits, but I drove to a new friend's house to give him a ride on our way to celebrate Robert Burns birthday this evening and he offered me a quick sip of his latest creation. He had just kegged a fresh brew, a robust soft on the tongue Porter with elegant chocolate caramel after tones and drew me a glass from his dedicated fridge. He had a pipe chanter fitted for the tap lever, gotta love that. I've got to cultivate this friendship very carefully.
Interestingly though, when we went to the UK a couple of months ago we checked customs list. Absinthe, green fairy, and items with psychedelic images are still banned from bringing back in your luggage.
Absinthe There is some very beautiful artwork produced at the time Absinthe was popular.. A little background.....
I've never had absinthe in any form. If I were to go grab a bottle to try, what should I look for? I drink this on occasion which my wife joked would be banned due to the psychedelic images...
I took another tack in the search and believe I found a source. There is about 4 oz. left in a bottle of Hiram Walker Kümmel that I saved from my dad's liquor cabinet a few years ago. It is very nice in a cup of coffee or tea. I have searched the internet and cannot find it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Hiram Walker is a supplier of relatively cheap flavored liquors. I ran 'Kummel' through the search engine of Astor Wines and Spirits (my favorite NYC liquor store that carries all sorts of obscure spirits and ships to most states) and found 2 for you... probably much better quality than the HW! :cornut: Search Results | Astor Wines & Spirits
Many thanks for your effort. I finally did locate the French label at a similar NY outlet but not the German. I think I'll go with the latter as it is a little less and being German is adjacent to it's home range of Holland.
I discovered a Canadian Whiskey made called Pendleton made by the Hood River Distillery in Oregon. Haven't quite figured out how that works, but not too expensive and I like it neat (out of the freezer). My expensive hooch is the 12 year Balvenie Doublewood Scotch. The second "wood" is sherry casks. Problem with this one is it goes down too easy (especially sitting by an outdoor fire in the winter smoking stogies of some sort). Next day is never good...
You want something around the same price range that isn't as easy going down? Try these: Lagavulin 16 year Ardbeg uigeadail Laphraoig 10 year CASK STRENGTH These are islay malts. Very smokey/peaty flavored. I always say they taste like burnt electrical wires but they are my favorites. However, our bourbon in the U.S. is actually just as good if not better than scotch… as in quality. Many of the scotches you see like Glenlevit add coloring to give it a richer look. Here in the U.S. we have laws against that and many of the scotches coming out of Europe wouldn't pass the quality checks here in America. Amazing bourbon: OYO - my friend did the logo Watershed Angels Envy - by Buffalo Trace (You cannot find this in many states but it's around $45) Eagle Rare - also distilled by Buffalo Trace Just to name a few.
