Agree 100%, you won't be sure unless you hear it in person. You are also correct (as usual) that the mods also impact the sound. So even if I hear and exhaust and like it, odds are it may sound a little different on mine. All good point. That said, I was curious what people were running and their feedback. For example, did people have fitment issues with certain exhaust? Did it drone, rust etc.

Regarding your comment on the 3" verse 2.5". According to Mario the HP dropped 7 WHP due to velocity loss. That is why he recommended if I was going to change the exhaust to consider going to a 2.5". I'm going to run a baseline before making any changes. Then as I make changes, my plan is to baseline it again with the changes. In my case, there is an ALTA open cone intake. So I expect the biggest difference will not be on the dyno, it will be on the road when the engine is hot but my intake temperatures remain colder due to a closed system.

Lol - I'm not there yet, but I do get ringing in one ear at certain times. When I was in highschool and college we would go to a friends farm and shoot the whole weekend. At one point, we decided we needed ear plugs and found 9mm worked well.... probably not the best choice but better than nothing. :Whistling: It was funny with everyone walking around with 9mm hanging out of their ears. Needless to say the next time we had correct plugs.

Yup talked with Chad and a few other shops. Milltek can be more cumbersome to mount and get fitted correctly. That said, the Akrapovic is also very nice, potentially a little lighter (need to confirm that) and the fit is spot on. It also comes with a set of very nice carbon fiber tips. Still working through the details between both of those.

Now I'm thinking about my downpipe. I was thinking about having it ceramic coated. I do that when I put on headers for normally aspirated cars. It appears this is also pretty common and outside of just helping keep the engine bay cooler, it also increases the velocity high.

    Anyone here done that?

So been thinking about this more and doing more research about volume and velocity. What Turbo are you running and are you running a 3" downpipe or just a 3" exhaust?

GTX2860R with a catless downpipe from TurboKits who sold me the turbo in a kit. Married it to an Alta 3" exhaust system then added another resonator to keep noises to a minimum. After lotsa mods, this turbo is too small, so looking at another upgrade --- someday.

looks like one box is a AEM intake. I can't wait to see how you like it!

On the Milltek site, when ordering they have you specifiy resonated versus non-resonated. I'm an old guy looking for a more mellow tone. I'm guessing non-resonated is closer to stock than resonated. I see Borla has a "Touring" set that has a milder sound. Any thoughts or suggestions.

My '06 R53 got a resonated Milltek when I first bought the car new. I LOVED the burble of the MIlltek during track days as well as on the highways and at the Tail of the Dragon...all until last winter and a snowstorm that damaged the resonator so much that I had to have it cut off. The shop that did it did not have a resonator so I have had to drive without one. Honestly, I can't hear much difference, other than the exhaust being somewhat noisier but at least it doesn't backfire. On the plus side, the burble is still there and that's enough for me [I'm 73].

By the way, WELCOME TO M/A!

I was happy with the resonated until it went out. Now, I'm stuck with non-resonated..a tad buzzy, but doable since I still have that "burble".

True, but, you also know that when a guy cuts off a bad resonator and does not have one that small in stock means that I leave his place without one, right? This happened in the dead of Winter. AND, why would I go and get one that fit,s and then go get it installed when basically, all I am doing is to cut down on the "buzz" factor?
