Even changing oil every 5,000 still requires an oil check every week or so. I an truly amazed at how many people do not check their oil. :confused5: Being lazy can be quite costly.

    Back on topic... :postcount

Normally Columbian for me too. I was at a fancy place this morning & splurged on a flavor. :D

I don't completely agree with that Jim.... I loved my '03 Cooper. Loved it a lot more than my '09 S.

But I love my '06 S the best :ihih:

And at least we're not arguing over WHAT brand of oil to use

Yes, the "what type of oil" threads on some forums go way past the point of being stupid and wind up going straight to insane. Keep something clean in the engine and then SHUT UP AND DRIVE!!

Staying on track with this thread....

Some more info to consider.... Can the OEM oil filter handle 15K oil change intervals? May be.... Maybe not.....

Are you intending to keep you MINI longer than 100K miles.... Maybe.... Maybe not...

It's free at 5000 miles too, if that's all you drive in a year, like I do!

My opinion based on fact, don't let that oil sit in there for a year, trust me, it's not good.

Post #61. I agree with most of what you have said. But MINIs oil changes are not free. The cost is added to the cost of the car. MINI gives nothing away for free. :nonod:

Just got my second oil analysis back from Blackstone. The results look pretty good. I decided over 10 years ago to follow the OBC oil change interval since I drive a lot, and didn't necesilary want to change the oil every six weeks. My previous car was a Honda civic that had a oil change interval of 7500 miles on Dino oil, so 15k on synthetic didn't seem bad to me. I've had both the valve cover off and oil pan, neither had any sign of build up, and looks like new. Most of my oil changes have been between 15,000 and 25,000. I'm happy with the lab results thus far.

Its my commuter/ play car, so it gets mostly long trips, with episodes of driving like I stole it (mostly on weekends). My daily round trip commute is about 140 miles of 98% highway. But living where I do even a trip to the store to get milk is a 10 mile round trip, so if the car is started it generally gets completely warmed up. If my driving habits were different I would imagine the OBC recommended change interval would be shorter.

And that's why I change my oil every 3-5k with good oil on my dime.

My car is modded and runs with meth so things need the extra protection a quality fresh oil provides.

Don't let this happen to you. MINI recommends every 10,000 yeah right...
