Does anyone have any reliable input/advice for removing the exterior door handles for a R53? I have looked online, all over, and can't find a whole lot of info. What I have found, the (very few) videos are of potato quality, and really hard to see the work being done. Any input id greatly appreciated!
Damn...I thought if anyone would have an answer, it would be YOU, given all your experience with MINIs.
A couple of laps in an IT race can remove both the door handle & rear-view mirror. Sorry for the smart arse answer. I couldn't let Lee out do me. Plus my meds are yet to kick in.
I use duck duck go search engine and I can't fine anything. If you take the door panel off do you se a way to un bolt it? if not they would be under the chrome covering on handle on the out side.
If you remove the door handles, how will you get in the car? Sorry, but you did leave yourself open to that. CD
Thanks for the, errrrr, help, all? lol I did find the info in a borrowed Haynes Manual, surprised that it was in there, and not in the Bentleys. It seems to be about a 2 hours job for the drivers side, and 1 hour for the passenger side. Not very difficult, per se, just tedious and a lot of tight quarters and fiddly bits. I think I have come up with a solution that will not require removing the handles to wrap the doors. Going to talk with my guy next week and see what he thinks.
My brother in law in Enid Oklahoma did that with his Dodge minivan. It didn't work out well. As much as I want to help, I just can't make myself change his catheter. I would not recommend it. CD
This write up was useful as a guide (gen2 door) when I replaced one of mine after the black rubber gasket rotted causing a leak. The mechanisms are really similar. It's a PITA. Like working on something while wearing handcuffs. Have FUN! https://www.motoringalliance.com/threads/door-panel-removal-exterior-handle-replacement.2158/
