I can't believe the defeatist attitudes in this thread. Imagine if everyone who's done anything great just sat around and waited for someone to do it. LOL We'd be living in the dark ages. Good thing the Unpossible market still exists. I'll have to think of something good for my project that is more unpossible than ever before.
When confronted by the unpossible at work(I build props/scenery) the technical directors go and research/draw/cipher, sometimes for days. In the meantime I just forge ahead and figure it out as I go. By the time they come back with a REALLY complicated way of doing the unpossible, I'm almost done, and ready to send it to the painters. Mark
I think it is really easy for you to sit there and armchair quarterback. I have not yet seen you say something of value here. You first start in with the "just use a resistor", which presents a fundamental misunderstanding of the situation. I come from a very technical background in my professional life, I just can't see spending hundreds or at least a hundred hours developing circuitry when you can just transplant the seat mat. I don't see the need to beat your head against the wall trying to develop software for a closed source system, when there is a simple work around. I work for a company that does aerospace design work for the Missile Defense Program, and one of our company "rules" is what I previously quoted. "The less you know about something the simpler it seems."

In general I agree with the KISS principle of Engineering. And if you can reuse an existing device, all the better. On the other hand, with a bit of creativity there should be ways of solving this problem that require a lot less than "hundreds of hours" of work. The overriding engineering design principle in this case is safety. I'm not yet convinced that inserting a sensor like this into a seat it wasn't designed for is the safest approach...maybe, maybe not. My instinct is the *safest* solution would be to use the existing circuit & replace that pad with a resistor...but I haven't investigated it enough to say for sure. First off I didn't say "just use a resistor" I said it was something like that. Since we figured out the air bags and oh... about a 100 other things that people said couldnt be done, how hard could it be? Sorry, guess I'm just a doer not a complainer. However, I'm done helping because of people with bad attitudes. So I try to encourage thought and progress from ones self with a "YOU CAN DOOO EEEEET!" I also an no arm chair quarter back. I was one of the people who did the unpossible. Everyone said the mini could not make over 250 WHP and would be "underivable" at that level yet it had already been done. Let alone the 635 WHP that we made later and :O drove the car! So frankly. I'm sorry if you dont understand why I think a stupid pad that is basically and on off switch is a joke. But no. I am not going to do it. You're not the only one who has worked in aero space and in technical fields around here. I'm glad you are so very technical. Maybe you can do it. I'm tired of doing everything. The "rules" you work by TO ME are just an excuse to be lazy. 99% of the time while people sit around talking about how it can't be done and oh that's not real and and and... some of us just go out there and give it a shot, we keep going until we figure it out. Not with out thought. But at some point, there is a thing called paralysis by analysis. Yeah... in some cases the less you know makes it seem simple. Some of us just live by different rules. Frankly, there's nothing a person can't do if they put their mind to it. So, now I hope you're done strutting around with your resume. Maybe you can just figure out the work around since you're a rocket surgeon. Yea... I said surgeon.

Ok, this has now gone to far. 1st of all, it's a for sale thread. All this great info is gonna be lost to the archives 90 days after the 1st post. So discussing this in this area is getting us all no place. Secondly, arguing over this is silly. Some people have the time and expertise and drive to change the status quo, others want a solution that will work without reinventing the wheel. Respect that please. Thanks and have a nice day...

<ahem> Getting slightly back on topic... The seats arrived yesterday and are in very good condition. Many thanks to Larry / works4me for a very pleasant transaction. Double bonus - it appears that the seats have the heating elements in them (which wasn't thought to be the case at first), and also, my Schroth harnesses fit just fine through the holes, so I can still use them. Awesome! Only other mystery is the silvery bar under the passenger seat. All I can think of is that it's a mount for a fire extinguisher. opcorn: Quick pics: Electrical connectors - one of them for the heating elements, perhaps?
Yes, the bar is the Brey Kraus (sp?) fire extinguisher mount. You should be able to mount any standard fire extinguisher mount on it... I think that was about $100 all by itself....
