I really like the idea of bringing tire manufacturer competition back to F1 -- another interesting wrinkle IMO.

Looks like the track in Korea may not be ready in time and they might have to cancel the race. Would mean 18 races this season rather than 19, plus a possible full month break between Japan and Brazil.

Back to tires, here's a bit more on the possible ID change mentioned earlier.

The thing I don't like about tire wars is that teams get too much of an advantage or disadvantage from a component they are buying off the shelf. When Braun and others developed an effective rear diffuser last year, they gained an advantage from their own design and development. When Michelin teams got a big advantage on intermediate tires and Bridgestone teams got a big advantage from full-wet tires, that was just luck [other than in the case of Ferrari which was intimately involved in Bridgestone's tire design and testing].

"Could" in this case means "will absolutely" - imagine a current F1 car going over a rumble strip with no sidewall flex!

How is it that F1--the world's most high-tech, technologically sophisticated sport, or so it claims--is not broadcast worldwide in high definition? Speed TV's broadcast crew has umpteen screens in their studio and all sorts of data--which, amusingly, cause the Speed crew to blurt out risque-sounding jargon such as “Vettel's just gone purple in Sector Three!â€--yet I can't watch it HD?

Yes, but I don't think the feed from F1 is in High Def even tho the channel you're watching on is a high def channel....and I agree that's just stoooopid.

I don't know. I have both the SD and HD Speed channels and I can tell the difference.

They just made that change on Time Warner in our 'hood, so I haven't been able to compare/contrast, but would both channels be broadcast the same anyway?

What I mean is, would it look the same between the two Speed channels, not because of the high def, but because of some setting on their end?

All I know is that I read that the signal from F1 - which does all the broadcasting of F1 races - is not a high def signal......

You forgot to note your source...that was from this morning's Autoweek.

I think you can get the UK coverage in HD if you use Bit Torrent.

As far as the race dates go, If you happen to be an Apple user. There is an F1 Calendar app that puts all the dates on your calendar for you

Hmmm, this one time AW didn't stick their URL in as usual.

Sorry, my post was lifted from AW, formerly known as AutoWeek, that has really lost its luster since going every other week.

If you spend any time looking at sites like Autoblog you get the same press releases and photos online way before you get Auto-Every-Other-Week in the mail. I remember getting the magazine with the Beachcomber concept car on the cover the same day photos of the production Countryman hit the web, for instance. Now AW has gotten into the act by emailing all their stuff out every day so I guess the print version may not be long for this world.

Anyway, back to the regularly scheduled F1 thread...
