Anyone surprised? My guess is they're hoping to keep the momentum going and take another run at this aimed at entry in 2012, the same year the US GP is supposed to make its debut in TX.

Not surprised. F1 is an astronomically expensive venture and tough enough when properly funded, to start out in the hole would leave little chance for success. Hopefully by 2012 the economy will be on the upswing and the prospect of a race on our shores will be the combination that attracts proper funding and we can finally see a competitive American entry in F1!

Very impressive victory for Red Bull and Webber in the Hungarian GP! He showed the rest of the field his backside and simply disappeared while Alonso and Vettel battled for a distant second...

40+ laps on tires that were only supposed to be good for 5 ?????

And set his fastest lap deep into that run!

I think he's been promoted from #2 status now, since he's leading the championship!

I said at the start of the season that I thought it was Vettel's to lose, looks like that's exactly what he's trying to do......

Schumacher's not exactly polishing his image with his antics down the front straight on Rubens......

Interesting race, much more than normal for the Hungaroring.

4 week break now, wonder who will have what for the second half?

BTW, the Williams Team made one for Rubens that says "I Beat The Stig"

Rubens has the "I Didn't Beat The Stig" shirts made.

Never one to miss a good bit of publicity, Rubens rocked up to the paddock wearing an ‘I beat the Stig’ T-shirt. What made it even better was the gift range he brought along for some of his F1 friends!

He duly presented Mark Webber, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton – three of the current grid members to have contested a time on Top Gear and whose times he had eclipsed – and gave them each a little bearing, bearing a special T-shirt adorned with the phrase ‘I didn’t beat the Stig’.

That flurry of activity during the safety car period (laps 15+) was so packed the announcers couldn't keep up with it.

I wish I could find some good video of the entire journey taken by Rosberg's wayward wheel/tire and I'd love to see the Williams mechanic who decided to catch it. Rosberg said "After I heard that my tyre hit ‘Big Nige’, one of my old Williams truckies - I was more concerned about my tyre than him!" Must be a pretty burly fellow...

Yep, they mentioned it during the broadcast that the tyre got snatched in mid flight by a Williams pit guy. Sounds like a decent enough fellow that you would want on your side in a bar fight.

You can see the mechanic, Nigel Hope, on the ground lower right and the wheel/tire still flying upper left so I guess he didn't actually "catch" it as reported during the broadcast.

Williams Formula One team mechanic Nigel Hope, right, lies on the ground after being hit by a wheel, top left, that came off the car of German driver Nico Rosberg, unseen, during the Hungarian Grand Prix Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010, at the Hungaroring circuit outside Budapest, Hungary. Hope was not seriously injured.

I think he "caught it" in the back, is what they meant...........not caught it like a baseball or something.

I heard he went to hospital but they found no issues other than being sore....

True, and that's more along the lines of what I thought must have happened, but I was initially going by what Will Buxton said during the broadcast "... Nigel Hope caught the wheel, he actually caught the wheel ..." and a few lines later "... but just to let you know he did actually catch that wheel."

I imagine one of the Williams crew told him afterward that "Big Nige" caught it and he took it at face value. I figure the guy must be pretty sturdy for a good friend (as Buxton claims to be) to not even question whether "catch" was meant literally.
