I too was disappointed in the available choices for the bonus race selection, but then realized (without reading the rules) that perhaps since the choices were all early in the season, that we would be able to select from a new set of choices as the year moves on. Glad to see that this is the case. I found it very difficult trying to allocate my available "funds" bewteen drivers teams and engine supplier, but I went for drivers first, then engine, then teams, with a lowball driver for my last choice. Alonso, Vettel, and Schu, along with Ferrari engines are where I'm hoping to score well... Steve, I also saw that each "manager" (player) is allowed to transfer 3 resources for free immediately before each race. I think I read this correctly? After which point, I guess transfers must be funded somehow? I like having some input on who and what I'm cheering for for my fantasy team, unlike past experience with the NUTS' old scheme, where each player was randomly assigned two drivers for each race. Although the NUTS' method was simpler, by far, and I have to admit that it got me interested in drivers who I normally would have ignored, it was after all, just NUTS! _Dave_
Last year you got three transfers. That's it. You could not even buy another one. Doubt they have changed it. The NUTs scheme was wacky, but it was designed to have a winner and a cash payout. Otherwise everyone would pick the same drivers all the time.
Actually, I think they ALL have to be funded (addressed below), although the 3 allowed resource transfers (per race) aren't avail only immediately before each race. For example, there's a race on Sun, 10 Apr, in Sepang, so the transfer window should open the following Tue, 12 Apr, and then close before the Istanbul weekend. Actual times and dates are listed in the rules section. I'm not sure how accurate they are though since the text says Tuesday but all the dates listed are Mondays...have to wait and see on that one. Also, the 3 transfer window doesn't just close all at once. There's one cutoff to score for qualifying and another to score for the race. However, I assume the 3-per-race transfer limit applies to both, cumulatively. I'm still confused about one aspect of how the transfers work though. I get that there's no limit to the number of transfers you can make before the pre-season cutoff (13:00 (EST) 25 Mar, 2011) and that you're thereafter allowed 3 per race. What I can't figure out is whether there are add'l substantive limitations to the transfers other than this: I don't think you make any add'l virtual money as the season progresses in Speed's version of fantasy F1 and I think this just means when you make a transfer the value of the components you want to swap are considered. For example, you can't trade in a driver worth €10M to get a driver worth €20M unless you still have an extra unspent €10M in your budget...I think. Also, though any extra slush in your budget may carry along throughout the season:
Steve, you are correct on all those. So if say something happens to one of your better drivers (22 mil), you can trade him and your lowest driver (5 mil) for two middle of the pack drivers (14 mil + 13 mil). That would count as two transfers.
No argument here. I used to consider my electric company as the most user-unfriendly site I visit, now it's the registration process for this game. To anyone just reading along so far and considering joining, don't let that gripe alone turn you off. Once you get past the front gate things seem to go much more smoothly (knock wood).
BTW, once you see your league, you can click on the "i" icon to see what choices your fellow leaguers have made.
Cool. I started a list of players at the bottom of post #1. If you decide to join, chime in and I'll add your name so anyone checking in here can see who's on the team.
I guess it sort of turned into a ground-swell toward the SpeedTV one after goaljnky set up a team there and I rolled along with the apparent flow. On the plus side, I haven't heard any negatives about that one other than the registration process. It seems to be a good setup. What do you think about it Scott? Have another preference?
It looks good to me.....wish I could get the activation code. Signed up over 2 hours ago and still haven't got my code in the email yet. How long did it take for you guys to get the code?
Uh oh. I got the first of mine in minutes and the other in seconds. Assuming it works the same for everyone, here's what I recommend. The first one I received was never used, only the second was used. Once you register the first time, you can go in and sign in. This should take you to a page where the two main features are a box for logging in and another box with a button you click to register. It wouldn't let me log in so though it seemed illogical to me I eventually clicked the "register" button and registered again. It's a different registration screen but I used the same password, etc. Then I received a second email with a different activation code to use. I used that and was in.
Wife tried to sign up also. Two different email accounts, same problem. Probably something on Speed's end.
So, here is how it worked of us: 1 Sign up. 2 Wait for the activation code (took overnight). Once received, unable to get to the activation page. 3 Use forgotten password feature to reset the password. Also might take some time. 4 Once received, reset the password, login and that should take you to the activation page. Use the code you received for step two. Don't forget to join the league.
