Kubby wanted Tonio Liuzzi..... Some speculate he's worried that if Nick's in the hunt for the championship, they won't pull him from the seat when Robert's better. Chances of that with Liuzzi were, shall we say........less.......
Whatever happens, one would have had to guestion the wisdom in letting Kubby select his stand in. It is very sad what happened to Kubicka, but what is best for the team is paramount in the decision on a driver....
Well, it's supposed to be that way isn't it? You wouldn't think so based on the furor over "Team orders" when Ferrari instructs one of theirs to pull over for the other....
This week's Bahrain GP2 race is officially canceled. F1 practice for the Bahrain race is still 3 weeks away and all the stuff the teams ship via sea freight is already on the way. Given the GP2 race was canceled “at the request of the Bahrain Motorsport Federation” I'm starting to wonder whether the F1 race will meet the same fate. I'm sure the 3-6 March Bahrain pre-season test is threatened as well.
Unless Bernie is as brain dead as I suspect; all he need do is watch the news clips of what is happening in Bahrain to see that there is no way that an F1 race should be run there at this time.
It seems even more obvious given claims anti-government protesters are specifically planning to target F1's big season-opening race. Lots of media, lots of world attention. Top that with the thought that if all is not peaceful by then the race weekend would likely only go on with loads of government/military security beating down the citizens, and suddenly F1 has a huge elitist black eye in the reputation department.
Yea let's see....while the poor masses of a small country are in an up rising against what they see as a repressive, elitist government living in opulence while they eat mud pies....lets bring in the F1 crowd and all the rich jet setters with their yachts and planes and fancy cars to hold an event that the average Joe in that country couldn't even afford a cheap seat at.... Simply priceless. PS: If Bernie and the Princes do it; they deserve whatever the heck happens.
Gotta love Kovalainen's sense of humor. I think he has a fairly good point, but that last line..... Kovalainen: KERS should only be for races (gpupdate.net)
I have a friend who lives on neighboring Qatar who says they might move it there......from one rich Arab island to another! However, I understand the gummint in Qatar has a better handle on things..... I don't see the elitist argument holding water in Bahrain, even the poor there are as rich as Croesus - unless they're "guest workers".....and they sure as hell won't be protesting - they'd be deported in a heartbeat!
Here are a couple angles you don't often get to see (from testing today at Catalunya). Very interesting shape(s) going on there. It amazes me they think it's worth the painstaking effort to put the Red Bull labels on there given the way they're all broken up and practically illegible. There's a lot of floor you don't usually think about until you see the right angles. Carefully shaped and contoured of course both above and below. Look at all the little winglets near the wheels.
Interesting to see the cancellation decision was taken out of Bernie's hands by the royal family...apparently Bernie was still thinking about it...
The 2011 Williams finally has its party clothes on, plus a few words (below) on the car's design. My favorite line ... "Everyone likes a tight rear end..." Michael: Lowest rear end ever for Williams (gpupdate.net)
What a tease, all that talk about the rear end and a bunch of pics with not one of them of it.... Would love to see just how much angle there is in those driveshafts.... It's like telling us all about Lindsay Lohens hoo hoo and showing us pics of her face....
I know! The closest pics I've seen are from earlier in the testing before the new livery. It does look like a rather minimalist rear end from this angle...no good pics of the suspension, etc, though.
