Link to a bit of video with Rosberg explaining switches/ knobs/ buttons/ functions of the 2011 Merc Steering Wheel. Rosberg’s 2011 steering wheel
Thanks for that link - I saw the 'Harvest' button on the Melbourne TV coverage and had been wondering what it did - sadly, it turns out my theory that there is a combine cutterbar hidden under the front wing isn't right....:blush2:
 I hadn't thought of that. Following that logic there might be room for a scythe blade tucked under there for a very different sort of 'push-to-pass' function. Hit the 'harvest' button and the blade sweeps out to cut tires on the car ahead...KERS and DRS become harvest-enabling devices...
Maybe I need to register or something? Every page click brought one up, of course you can just close them, but they are a pain, and cover most of the page....
The only ones I get pop open if you roll your mouse cursor over their banner ad, usually the banner at the top of the page.
I see they're predicting 60-90% chance of rain (scattered thunderstorms) in Sepang all three days, Fri, Sat and Sun.
Ah, nothing like uncharted territory for all the teams at once, how will the Pirelli's do in real rain? Wet F1 races are almost always fun! Well,......for us anyway!
This actually turned out to be a suspension failure. Something broke and jammed the wheel. Same part broke on Petrov's car during the same session. Some interesting words from Pirelli (lifted from a longer article, primarily an interview w/ Button) Button: Malaysian GP is going to be 'absolute madness' Button: Malaysian GP is going to be 'absolute madness' | Page 2 | F1 News | Apr 2011 | Crash.Net
Crap. Well, it wasn't anything dramatic, no accident, no crash, just Heidfeld driving most of the way round the track with his right front wheel locked, The tire eventually wears through, sparks fly, etc. A few interesting words from the commentators about the tires and a lot of speculation -- inaccurate as it turns out -- about the brakes being locked. Hey, found another version. Same video but with the end lopped off where they're rolling him into the garage, removing the wheel, looking at the suspension, etc. Maybe this one will stay up. I still can't believe how well McLaren are doing. They were so far behind right up to the end of testing and then they came out nearly neck and neck with Red Bull. I figured Melbourne might have been a slight aberration and they'd fall back a bit in Malaisia but Sepang quali proved me wrong again. I think it's interesting how they caught up too. Unlike Ferrari who seem to have been relatively conservative in design but reliable and now need to develop aggressively, McLaren started out with an aggressive design that was unreliable. The biggest reliability problem they said was their complex "octopus" exhaust and when they backed that off to something more conservative for the sake of reliability (along with a few other tweaks, obviously) voila, suddenly they're nipping at the Bulls' heels.
Yes it was, but like Matchett said "I'm sure Torro Rosso didn't want us to see that ..." You can bet they're not only pissed about the fasteners letting loose and losing the panel. I wouldn't have thought of gold as "heat reflective" (re Matchett's comment), certainly not more so than other options.
Gold foil has been the high end standard for heat reflection / protection for a number of years . Its used quite often as insulation in the air intake area for example. This is on an Ultima GT that shows up for our Sunday morning meets. Randy [/IMG]
