We'll find out this weekend, as apparently will many others. Silverstone boasts record sell out for Sunday (gpupdate.net)
This is a pretty good look at the 6-wheel Tyrrell. Sorry it doesn't move but at least the camera does. Very cool features I've never seen closely enough to notice before. What do you suppose those little side windows are for? I'll guess so the driver can keep an eye on the condition of those little front tires. F1 history, in terms of champion drivers 1947-1970, but plenty of good on-track video. Some beautiful cars, esp. the 60s Lotus', Brabhams, etc. I don't think I've ever seen the Ferrari shark nose in action before. The great Jackie Stewart is narrating the second part of that. Saw the 6 wheel Tyrell race last year at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca. Quite unique and it was leading its group of pre-1985 F1 cars for the first few laps until it had some mechanical issues. The Gurney V-12 Eagle F1 was there also to do "parade" laps. It never got up to speed as it had mechanical issues also. Beautiful V-12 motor!!
The 6 wheel Tyrrell was a very innovatived race car. The major designs were lower the frontal area to permit greater aerodynamics. The little windows were for the drivers to see the tire wear on the front wheels. The With the 4 wheel design the suspension system all had to be doubled up which added a considerable amount of weight to front of the car. 2 years after the Tyrrell, MARCH Cars showed a prototype F1 car with 4 rear wheels. It never ran in any F! event. Alfa Romeo bulit a hill climb car with 4 rear wheels i the 30's.
Saw the results this morning and thought "Yay! Vettel's not in... oh darn. " Seriously, everyone else needs to step up their game or something. I want to see a real race, not yet another "welp, nothing happening out front, let's focus on the battle for 15th place."
Don't tell me anything about it! FOX was supposed to carry it live at 5AM, but instead put a 4hr delay on it. GGGRRRRRRR ! :mad5:
Where was it on? Fox is broadcasting it in the states at 12 noon eastern time today. Please. No spoilers till we've had a chance to view.
I would not dream of spoiling it, believe me. I watched it streaming online. I went to ustream.tv, and in the comments was a link to a better stream, since the ustream video appeared to be blank. I've done this a couple times, with good results. It's not HD, but I don't mind.
Don't know if everyone noticed. As of this year at Silverstone a drive-thru penalty is now a stop-go penalty. Apparently due to alterations at the circuit it's now possible to take the pit lane at the speed limit and gain time relative to passing the pits and staying on the track. I also noticed Whiting mentioned they were gong to be watching closely to make sure no one took the pit lane to make a pass or other gain.
And so endth F1 on Fox for this season. I can't say I am at all sorry that we are headed back to Speed. I sure will miss the 3 lap, 6 commercial cycle that Fox graces us with.
