I wonder what the explosion was. Maybe the batteries for the KERS system. Didn't he have his car catch fire in a similar manner earlier this year?
This was his second Car B Que this year. There was much speculation by the BBC boys as they walked pit road after the race. The discarded, burned bodywork was outside the closed Lotus Garage door, Brundle and Eddie Irvine poked and prodded the bodywork on camera. Irvine said there was a decided electrical scent to the burnt bits.
Did you notice the athletic leap from the car? They are trained not to touch car & ground at the same time. ZAPP!!!! Renualt GP bugzapper.
Yup. I wanted to try the BBC coverage but I was up until 4am and had to pack it in and settle for the regular Speed coverage via DVR. At least it wasn't Fox...
Keep in mind this comes after the new calendar was announced, the one that moves the US GP from Jun to Nov along with many other changes. Apparently it's ok if he makes changes but not ok if the teams have something to say about it. Seems to me they have a right to complain given his latest brain-fart includes 7 races in 10 weeks on 4 separate continents, and this comes at the end of the season when the mechanics, etc, are already exhausted! Ecclestone Slams Call For 2012 Calendar Changes (formula-one.speedtv.com | SPEED Staff / GMM | Posted August 02, 2011 | GMM Newswire) Do you suppose he realizes how happy people will be to see the back of him when he finally retires in a hundred years or so?
Egomaniacs such as Bernie never realize how they are truly perceived and anyone who might disagree with them is instantly dismissed as an idiot..... Wishing you all the best Bernie in hopefully a sooner than later retirement. Your idiot always, Mark
New Jersey back in the running for an F1 date. Racing fans eager for the return of Formula One racing may recall a proposal last year that would have seen a United States Grand Prix run in New Jersey, just across the Hudson from the Manhattan skyline. The project went belly-up when local activists against turning Liberty State Park into a racing circuit pressured Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy to put an end to it. In its place – or so it seemed – the return of the U.S. Grand Prix was moved to Austin, Texas, where America's first purpose-built F1 circuit is currently being constructed. One might have assumed that the Austin project won out instead of the New Jersey one, but if the latest report from The Wall Street Journal is anything to go by, it may be too early to count the Garden State out of this particular race just yet. A new proposal is reportedly being considered to hold an F1 race across the New Jersey townships of Weehawken and West New York, which would still provide the same spectacular backdrop and quick access to and from the city. The project's financial backers are reportedly adamant that the race and all its related expenses be privately funded and require that no tax dollars be diverted towards its orchestration. If it were to go through, the race would potentially be held in addition to, and not instead of, the race in Texas. It wouldn't be the first time that the United States held two F1 races: parallel grands prix – dubbed East and West – were held at Watkins Glen and Long Beach in the 1970s, while additional races were held as well in Detroit, Dallas and Las Vegas in the 1980s. Thanks Steve. Heck that could have been bad, flying shrapnel & all. That corner worker was lucky to escape unscathed.

'Belgium could alternate with France' (gpupdate.net) Hmmm, Paul Ricard mentioned as rejoining after a couple decades off the calendar.....doesn't Brainless Bernie own Paul Ricard now?
A few surprises in here I think (e.g., Heidfeld , Trulli and Di Resta). F1 stars' road cars – revealed (crash.net)
Well with Perez & his TeleMex sponsorship money I can see it happening. I read somewhere the force behind TeleMex was something like the 4th richest man in the world. Bet Bernie would love to get his hooks into that wallet. :drool
If he adds Mexico plus all the others he keeps pushing I wouldn't be surprised if, given things like the Belgium alternating with France idea, someone floats the idea of a one race alternating between Montreal and Texas, and another between Mexico and Brazil. I actually expected the alternating NA race idea to rear its head when both Indianapolis and Montreal were shaky. It wouldn't be Bernie though, he still wants to add New York or New Jersey.
