    ......and what Seb didn't mention was that he was told by his engineer just prior to this to do the OPPOSITE of what Schumi did as far as pitting is concerned. So Seb was in position to go into the pits if Schumi hadn't, but if Schumi had gone into the pits he was to stay out.

    Thanks Scott, I forgot that part. Saw it on the telly, but it didn't stick.

    Seb sure did a heck of a job rotating the back end of that car around once he saw Schumi's plan.

    I'm amazed that Seb could begin his second turn after seeing Schumi beginning to go in. That took faster than thought reactions. Still, Schumi knew exactly where he was going, and was ready to force Seb into a wreck if need be.

    The old man (who's younger than me) may still have it, but that was pretty damn risky, imo.

    Hulkenberg? One article I read said he had a fuel pressure/delivery problem, another says it was his gearbox. Whatever the problem, assuming the car runs he'll start from the back in a car that otherwise looks strong this weekend. May make for an interesting drive.

    Understood. You said Q1 so I figured you must have meant Hulkenberg...though I did wonder why you'd be interested in where he ended up...

    Given the race has already been run I think alerts for quali are no longer needed at this point so. I haven't seen the race yet so I missed any explanation they may have given during the pre-race show for Alonso's Q3 problem. Up until late last night the only explanation offered by the team was an anti-sway/roll bar problem. They said they knew about it at the start of Q3 but didn't have time to do anything about it so they sent him out anyway with fingers crossed...which apparently wasn't much help.

    I'll second that. I also like this interesting comment about the new "more active phase" of his recovery (lifted from a different article). Shows he's thinking pretty clearly about what he's doing.

    Truly good stuff to see Robert back in a race car and competing well indeed. Tis a testament to the doctors and Robert's will!

    I wish him all the success it takes to once again see him in an F1 car!

    FIA president Jean Todt will try to persuade Audi, Porsche and Toyota—the three manufacturers whose LMP1 sports-car prototype programs are essential for the FIA World Endurance Championship—to enter Formula One. He revealed his intentions in Monza ahead of this weekend's F1 Italian Grand Prix, and added that he would also pursue an objective to cut costs by a third in F1 before 2016.

    Williams Grand Prix Holdings has announced an improved financial performance for the first six months of 2012.

    The company says turnover on its core Formula One business has increased by 57 percent to $117 million, while net profits are up from $13.6 million.

    Williams is one of 12 F1 teams, and is listed on the German stock exchange.
    The team makes no secret of the fact that its performance has been boosted by a “sweetener”payment from F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone related to the new Concorde Agreement.

    It said in a statement: “The notable increases in half-year turnover and profit are largely due to our diversification strategy,as well as the recent receipt of a one-off payment following a new commercial agreement for our continued commitment to Formula One.”

    Prof. Sid Watkins has passed

    Formula One has been paying tribute to its former medical delegate Sid Watkins, who died on Wednesday evening at the age of 84.

    Watkins, a wise-cracking neurosurgeon with a love of cigars and whisky, was F1's on-track surgeon from 1978 until 2004, his crusade to improve medical facilities helping to dramatically cut the number of deaths and serious injuries in the sport.

    His actions helped save the lives of Northern Ireland's Martin Donnelly, Finland's two-time world champion Mika Hakkinen and the Austrian Gerhard Berger, among others.
