This article doesn't make a lot of sense unless you know the track. Here's part of the section they're talking about.
The issue was anticipated, there's a pre-race explanation here.
One of the interesting aspects of this great new track.

ABU DHABI (Bloomberg) -- Aabar Investments PJSC agreed to sell its stake in Mercedes-Benz's Formula One racing team to the premium brand's parent Daimler after selling its remaining voting stake in Daimler last month.
The deal is conditional on approval from German and Italian antitrust authorities, Aabar's Abu Dhabi-owned parent International Petroleum Investment Co. said Monday in a statement.
The sovereign-wealth fund disposed of its 3.1 percent holding in Daimler on Oct. 5, the automaker said last month.
Aabar bought a 9 percent stake in the German manufacturer in March 2009 after financial markets collapsed. As part of that partnership, Aabar acquired 40 percent of the Mercedes Formula One team. -

I do remember hearing Hobbs (?) mention it was the first time Hamilton, Alonso and Vettel had been on a podium together. I was as surprised as he was. -

Red Bull will use new-spec alternator (AutoSport.com)

I'm guessing Red Bull was scared shirtless that Vettel's car would go dead next at Austin.
-
I used to own an '84 Renault Alliance back in the late 80's early 90's. I replaced the alternator in that thing about once a year.
So every time they have an alternator failure in the Red Bull, I think "Yep. Those'll do that." -

These days when one of the Renaults pulls off the track my first thought is "check the alternator!" :biggrin5:

You have got to love Kimi. For a man of few words, he comes up with absolute gems. From F1 site:
Q: What do you admire?
KR: Those boys from 1960s and early ‘70s in F1. Drivers made from steel in cars made of wood. -

Kristensen to be steward for championship finale (GPUpdate.net)

Sometimes race is fair and sometimes they are not. The GP of Americas was one of the best ones I have watched. The circuit is simply fantastic, safe, fast and beautiful. And my applause goes to Lewis Hamilton he did a great job on the track.
Next race on Brazil I expect that Red Bull to blow off the alternator and Alonso gets the Glory in the terra brasilis.
I love Lotus (since the Black John Player Special), I like McLaren and but on the next race I will be all Ferrari even against my will, but I want now Alonso to win. Lets see if the fans can support him and with a little bit of help of Massa.
It maybe will be a crazy race because Sao Paulo at this time getting into summer it can have some summer rain and then throw some unexpected stuff in the final result.
I called the President on Brazil to see if they can open the track more creating more room on the tight points if somebody is ahead of Vettel they can just move out on speed and leave the track open for PRINCESS to pass.
But unfortunatelly the President is ignoring my e-mails and phone calls.
Not sure why !!!! :cryin: But I keep trying... -

Really?
The kid makes one comment out of frustration after racing his butt off all year and you make derogatory remarks about him, he's a "princess"?
Let's see your F1 driver's lic.....yeah, I thought so. Armchair quarterbacks.....
Gimme a break.
I would not be surprised to see 'ol Flip take Vettel out on team orders tho.....
Wonder what would happen if Red Bull does have another alternator failure and it costs them the championship? Would they switch to Honda power or something?
I doubt it.
It's been mentioned a number of times that winning the constructors is worth as much as $100 million, but the driver's is just for "glory", so from that standpoint they're golden already, still I know they would like to get their man in the winner's circle as much as Ferrari would like to do it for Alonso. I hope it goes down to the wire and is not decided in the first turn. -
I'm hoping for a Ferrari victory, but not because I hate Red bull or anything, more because I'm always rooting for the underdog. Truth be told though, If Hamilton were still in the running I'd be ecstatic if he got the championship. In any event, I'd like him to do well for his last McLaren race.
As for Vettel, well, he's a hotshot to be sure. Petulant sometimes too. But after the phenomenal drive (lucky or not) he had at Abu Dhabi this year, I will never doubt his racing ability again. -
Oh yeah...

Here's a snip from a current (at the moment) write-up on weather for the finale at Interlagos:
"Now, to the main event that we have been discussing since Saturday. A cold front is already forming across central Argentina this afternoon. It will intensify over the next 24 hours or so and then begin a slow trek north-eastwards. The latest projection is that the front will be slower moving than first thought and this has a huge potential impact for Sunday’s race.
Saturday’s forecast (as a result) now changes a little, because the focus of the rain has shifted foward by one day. It will be dry for much of the morning, extending into the early afternoon. Mainly cloudy conditions are expected for final practice, as outlying cloud from this front moves in over the region. Qualifying is on a knife-edge just for the moment, but with the projection moving forward timewise, we are now looking at a drier scenario for the knockout session, with just a slight chance of showers. Air temperature will peak at 33 Celsius and this could produce a thunderstorm or two by late afternoon.
The fun now begins on Saturday evening, with showers crossing the region overnight and into Sunday morning. Race day will start off overcast with some light showers around, but throughout the day these will intensify, with the worst of any rainfall now set for Sunday afternoon. Rainfall totals on Sunday range from one to two inches and the race is looking set to be wet, with some particularly heavy bursts at times. Air temperature will drop considerably to a maximum of 25 degrees Celsius.
To summarise, the worst of the rain is now predicted between midday and midnight local time on Sunday."
