Alonso drove the best this season of his entire career, his skills and those skills alone propelled that chassis to the front and into contingency for the Championship.
Alonso may not have won the official points Championship but in this fans eyes he was the best driver on the track weekend and week out. Well done indeed!

In my mind Alonso turned in the best drives this season. Yep Vettel won the championship, but in my eyes Alonso did more with less.

These were being sold by Red Bull before the race started.

I'm not his biggest fan either, but he did have a hell of a drive, imo. After his accident in turn 4, he was at the back of the grid (probably why he didn't get punished for causing it, I think). He drove from the back to score with a wounded car in the rain. That takes some serious skill, and it wasn't a one-off either: He had the same kind of run in Abu Dhabi too, two races ago.
I don't have to like the kid, but I cannot deny that he is a very, very skilled driver. Not to denigrate Alonso's accomplishments in this year's Ferrari at all, or to make light of his or my disappointment, but I think Vettel has earned some respect, even if it is grudging. -

I don't think we need any more spoiler warnings. It's been 24 hours -- close enough -- and we've spilled the beans here already.

Some interesting numbers hiding in here. The coldest track and air temp numbers (under "Other interesting numbers", page 2) make me wonder whether they should move the USGP back to June.

That wasn't typical Austin weather. It was much cooler than usual for that time of year.

Red Bull feared Vettel would retire from the Brazilian GP (AutoSport.com)

Agreed, and that's not even the hit that did the damage. He and Senna had already come together once, Senna's front right wheel to Vettel's car just in front of the left rear wheel (source of the damage to Vettel's car). This caused Vettel's spin before the collision seen just beginning in that pic. Amazing Vettel didn't retire from this one.

That also shows how little tire pressure they use in F1.....

Vettel didn't pass under yellow. The yellow light was for slippery track. Any one that says he isn't a great driver didn't watch this race and the one two races ago. Not to mention his first win in the rain in a TR.
Yes, Alonso probably deserves the championship more. But stop whining. It's like the Schumacher days again.
Go back and watch the racing in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Then tell me about tactics and dirty driving. -

As to the pass under yellow......he did, but still no clear answer as to what the SOLID yellow lights mean.
-
No one is saying Vettel isn't a great driver, just that Alonso had to extract more from what he had to drive than Seb did to get the finishes...that is all. No one is whining, just applauding Alonso for his personal effort.
Both are very good drivers indeed!! -

No worries about Seb winning the championship. Bernie was not going to let anything happen to his young money maker.
I'm not whining my supercharger is. :cornut: -

Sorry about the whining comment. I agree Alonzo did an outstanding job. The stewards said the light was for slick track not a yellow flag.

Everybody talks about the Ferrari not being easy to drive, but neither was the Red Bull, when they lost their rear diffuser design it made the car extemely difficult to balance, Seb said so himself. The car didn't drive anything like last year's car and he had to learn how to make it work - just like Alonso.
I say it was a terrific season of close racing with a multitude of drivers winning, thats what makes a fun season to watch and despite all Bernie's machinizations it really worked well. I'm looking forward to next season, except for the NBC and Leigh Diffey part. Either I'll be watching without the sound or I'll have to find an alternate site to watch from. -

I can't find anything anywhere that shows what a standing yellow light means as opposed to a flashing one.

My experience is with SCCA racing & track days. FIA may have different rules for F1. :confused5: Whatever it was it must have been OK. Seb was not penalized.
