Thirded. I thought it was a bit weird. All the speculation notwithstanding, certain things are inevitable. I will be watching the race live with a fresh cup of coffee and a stack of home made pancakes. When it's all over, there will be some discourse in House of Jinky. Wife being a Vettel fan and me rooting for 'Lonso. At least she has a big heart and will make the aforementioned pancakes.

    WOW!

And I can't think of anything else I could say that wouldn't spoil something for those who haven't watched.

Admittedly, I'm an Alonso fan, so I will put this out there:

While Vettel won the championship, Alonso drove like a champion. Not just this race, but the whole season. Looking forward to next season. Time to decide which race to go to.

We had a wicked cold front blow through that week. Case in point: It's gonna be a high of 84 today.

It's too hot and muggy in June to run a race and expect fans to sit out with no shade.

Trust me, weather in November is much better suited for a race.

Looking at that contact and the above picture in particular, with the wheel on wheel hit like that, the fact that he did not break the suspension is an absolute miracle. It would not be far fetched to say there was divine intervention that kept him in the race.

My impression was that a flashing yellow was a full course caution whilst a constant yellow was for a local caution...either way you could not pass there...

Apparently there is talk that a solid yellow on the light boards is the same as a yellow/red flag. If it were a caution then the light would have been flashing yellow. The caution indicator lights on vettel's wheel confirm this. When there is a caution on the course, the drivers get an indication on the left side of the steering wheel.

According to the official FIA rules, the use of lights is covered under supplementary rules that are on a per race basis, so we will likely never know exactly how those read.

Internationally, there is no such thing as a 'full course caution' (there is a safety car caution with SC signs but that is a bit different). A single waved yellow flag is a caution and I think the solid yellow light (sorry, lights are still new to us...) means the same - hazard on track, be prepared to slow down. Double waved yellow flags or a flashing yellow light is a severe caution - meaning slow down for sure, and be prepared to stop if necessary, track workers may be on track.

Normally the red and yellow flag is shown on its own. So what the marshals were doing with both the yellow and red/yellow flags, I've no idea - and possibly the drivers didn't either.

And there is no pink flag, which when waved does not mean "Hello, sailor...".

I'd have to say those trackside lights & the ones on the wheel would trump a marshals flag.
You'd figure F1 would have this stuff figured out. Heck winning the world championship & there is a question of a deserved penalty not being handed out. Guess we should put this one to bed, because this can go on forever.

Makes no sense as the lights can show green as well as yellow and red.

I'm so pleased they saw the light (and heat/humidity!) and moved the Austin date to November, now all I have to do is figure out how to get some affordable tix. I have lodgings arranged, my brother lives about 10 miles from the track!

Raikkonen's visit with Williams at their digs isn't news. Here's a bit of recent speculation re his possible interest in a return to F1.

Whilst a mid pack ride in F1 could make him some very good money, it would be short lived and podium free....

Kimi is a very good driver who can't seem to find a new home or series for his talents. Might this fan humbly suggest that the Fin could fit perfectly in Rolex Grand Am racing. His talents in a DP car could be a real winner in a series that could use some new blood and the panache of a successful former F1 piloti!!

I figure Williams probably won't go for it unless they think it will draw sponsors interested in associating themselves with an ex-champ without having to pay the premium to sponsor one of the top teams. Raikkonen might bring his own sponsors along as well.

Rolex might be a good fit for him, though I'm liking that series less and less and I'd rather see him in ALMS or maybe the FIA's GT1.

Exactly and drivers like Kimi could be the shot in the arm that series needs! Problem with Rolex is you have great cars in a series where the dominate driver is......Scott Pruitt...... even Kimi would seem positively animated next to him and bring a new higher level of talent to Grand Am.....possibly attracting more past champs to the fray. Did someone say Rubins? :)
