Gary Anderson is the technical guru on the BBC F1 commentary team and as ex-designer for Jordan, it's clear he knows a huge amount about the cars, just from looking at them and chatting to people. This sounds great, except it's actually a permanent disappointment as here is this guy with all the technical knowledge that would make the F1 coverage utterly fascinating - but the BBC try hard to make their coverage appeal to the non-enthusiast, so the technical stuff rarely rises above the "more wing means more drag, and that's not a good thing" level. Grrrr...
Maria de Villota is the Marussia test driver who had the horrible testing incident earlier this year. Here's a 3D reconstruction based on post accident imagery (lifted from a story on Jalopnik): No surprise she lost her eye, to me the big surprise after seeing that pic is that she's alive at all.
"McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh believes Lewis Hamilton has already had regrets about his move to Mercedes." Gee, ya think? BBC Sport - Lewis Hamilton has had regrets over leaving - McLaren boss
Räikkönen will gain a lots of fans here in US with this quote: "I have always liked to go to new places as it adds a bit of additional excitement. I’m particularly looking forward to this one. I like the American atmosphere, it’s just a relaxed environment; they know how to have fun and, most of all, they love racing." I am pretty sure he can't say the same about the next one coming on Brazil. Probably the closest he can say about Interlagos race is "... they love racing".
Nothing against Kimi, but he won because Lewis' Mac carped out of the race. Maybe he knows Lewis will DNF again.
I like the fact that Kimi is running with the "leave me alone" biz instead of treating the media hype like so much annoyance like he might have in the past. He even came up with his own version of the shirt. I'd like to have one but this version is definitely a limited edition.
