Well, it wasn't just that they were testing tires - the entire thing was unsupervised by the FIA, so what else could they have been testing at the same time? I mean, they did 1000 miles (kilometers?) of testing - that's a huge amount.

Other teams don't get to do this, and the rule is very clear that for tire testing they cannot use the current spec car - Mercedes did.

Should be a fairly cut and dried deal, right?

Man I find it hard to believe that the race in Jersey will even happen, let along go for 15 years. I hope I'm wrong though. An American team would be great, but I think Rodger Penske is too smart to start an F1 team.

The 2 egos won't match. There can't be 2 number 1s at Ferrari. This is the reason I don't think Kimi will end up at RB either.

Yeah, it is a one year extension of the current contract that was through the 2014 season. Now it is through the 2015 season.

Interestingly, Alonso's contract with Ferrari is through 2016 and has a provision that Vettel cannot be on the team while Alonso is the number 1 driver.

I think now that the cat is out of the bag if another team does the same they will be hit hard. Rather than a slap on the wrist this seems like they are putting Merc in a time out that means very little to nothing.

Looks like I was right RB and Ferrari are talking about not going to the young driver test and doing their own 3 day "private" test.

"ooo I'm so scared. They might reprimand me and ban from a test I don't want to do anyway"

Do you mean you think there is a team boss who genuinely thinks Kimi's radio would still be working if team orders to stay back were issued?.....

I think the silly season for drivers is going to be epic this year......

To start with, the opening at Red Bull should have about 20 drivers clamoring for the spot.

But Massa's seat at Ferrari willl be just as enticing, if not more so......cause really, who thinks he'll be back on the grid in a Ferrari next season? Really?

So with those two seats open at arguably the two best teams on the grid - Mercedes current success notwithstanding - who wouldn't want one of those places? If I were a young driver in F1 right now I'd be damn sure they had my resume, and my cell #!

As for Mock Webba, as he rides off into the sunset amongst hale and hearty farethewells, I don't understand what all the fuss is about. He's a mid-pack driver at best and he's never impressed me. When you look at his career at AMG Mercedes his best finish was a DNF! Well, I guess that one wasn't really his fault.......that was the year of the flying Mercedes!

He started driving for Minardi in 2002, but didn't win his first race till 7 years later, and I think then only because he was with the dominant Red Bull team. Hell, even Barrichello won a race or two driving for Ferrari when it was dominant!

And when people talk about what a stand up guy he is, I wonder how they forget his single digit salute when Vettel passed him, and the sore ass he had when he thought they were gonna give him that one. I'm sorry, but the guy has never impressed me with his driving ability, and even less so with his sportsmanship - to me he's just a big whiner and a mediocre driver. Hell, how many times has Vettel spanked him badly in the last few years - same equipment yet he can't get off the line at the start of a race to save his butt?
Same equipment but Vettel's outscored him what -100 to 1?

I think if Red Bull wanted a solid #2 driver, then that's what they should have gone and hired, but I'm sorry, from my privledged position behind the wheel of my armchair, Mock Webba was far from a #2 driver, and more just #2........

That was an amazing race. Bernie's idea of salting the field with exploding tires was a great one. Round & round they go whose tire will blow nobody knows.

All kidding aside, glad no one was hurt. Could have been bad taking a retread in the face at 190 mph. Turned out to be a one cracker of a race. Oh how I wish there were 2 more laps for Webber. Wonder if anyone caught a pic of Webber adding a handful of sand to Vettel's gear box oil. :D

Do you figure Pirrelli will get some more tire tests?? Hmmm.....
