No, but I bet the McLaren mechanics can be found in the hotel bar wearing tee-shirts with a suitable slogan - "Lewis, please drive by" or similar....

I've now worked my way through all the 2nd Gen wheel/tyre sizes from 15 through 16 to 17 and there's no doubt that the bigger wheels with wider tyres provide more grip. And this is on British roads with really poor surfaces (think Detroit). There's no doubt the 15s ride more sweetly and the 17s are more 'crashy', but even on a bad road the extra grip of the 17 provides better roadholding despite its inability to follow the road surface perfectly.

But then since I wanted a car optimised for poor roads, I don't order Minis with sports suspension since I want the greater compliance of the stock setup.

Red Bull: Vettel's actions deliberate (Racer.com)

Red Bull boss Christian Horner believes there was nothing accidental about Sebastian Vettel's ignoring of team orders to win the Malaysian Grand Prix.

Vettel plunged his Red Bull team into a huge controversy at Sepang on Sunday when he ignored a pit wall order to hold position and instead passed teammate Mark Webber to triumph.

Although Vettel apologized to the team and Webber for what happened, claiming his actions in defying orders were "not deliberate" â€“ Horner says he is not convinced.

When asked why the team did not ask Vettel to relinquish the position to Webber in the closing stages to make up for his defiance, Horner said: "Do you honestly think that if we had told him slow down and give the place back, he would have given it back?

"There was no point. He had made it quite clear what his intention was by making the move. He knew what the communication was. He had had the communication. He chose to ignore it.

"He put his interest beyond what the team's position was. He was focused on those eight points' difference between second and first place â€“ which was wrong. He has accepted it was wrong."

Horner said that the order for Webber and Vettel to hold station was given once they had settled into position after their final stops on lap 43. The decision was justified because the team was worried letting them race to the flag risked severe tire degradation problems.

"Following cars very closely destroys tires," said Horner. "We know we have been marginal all weekend on tires and what we didn't want to do is run out of tires and take an unnecessary risk.

"From a team's point of view, we are trying to manage the race from that final stop to the end of the race. At this point of the season it made sense to bank the 43 points. All you are doing to allow the two to race from a team perspective is to take unnecessary risk at this stage of the championship.

"Obviously Sebastian chose that he wanted those eight points and chose to take things into his own hands. He has apologized to his team for that and has apologized to Mark for that, and that is it."

Horner said the matter was discussed at length in the post-race team debrief and he hoped the team could move on.

"We spoke to both drivers, and I have spoken to both drivers, and Sebastian has apologized to both Mark and the team," said Horner. "So we have conducted our debrief as we would usually do and we will focus on the next race."

Claire Williams has been announced as the Deputy Team Principal of the Williams F1 Team with immediate effect, a role that will see her work directly alongside founder and father Frank. Having joined the team back in 2002, she initially held a media position before being appointed Director of Marketing three years ago.

According to a statement issued by the Grove-based outfit on Wednesday morning, the newly created position was confirmed ahead of the 2013 season, but had been delayed after the death of Claire's mother, Lady Virginia. She has been given the title as part of what the team has described as "a clear succession path."

"Iâ€™m truly honoured to be taking on the role of Deputy Team Principal and look forward to working alongside Frank to help run the team this season and beyond," Claire Williams said of her new position. "I have grown up in the sport and have learnt the ropes from one of Formula 1â€™s legendary Team Principals and as a result I feel well equipped for this new challenge.

"I understand the commitment that every person within the team gives each day to see our car out on the track and I am determined to see us back at the top. It has been a sad month for my family and Williams as a company following the death of my mother, but as the season takes hold we must look to the future. It will be a privilege to play a part in taking the team into what I hope will be a successful next chapter."

Frank Williams hailed daughter Claire as one of the "most valuable assets" of the team, explaining that she holds all the qualities required to guide it forward.

"Over the past decade Claire has worked tirelessly for Williams," he said. "Her knowledge of the sport and passion for the team is unquestionable and Iâ€™m proud to say that during her time here she has proven herself to be one of our most valuable assets.

"With Claire being appointed Deputy Team Principal, I know the future of Williams is in extremely safe hands. This appointment also had Ginnyâ€™s blessing who I know would have been incredibly proud to have seen Claire taking on this position by my side."

Although she has become deputy team boss, Claire Williams will retain her Commercial Director role leading the marketing, communications and sponsorship side of the business and continue as a member of the companyâ€™s Board of Directors.

F1 risks losing manufacturers over new engines, says Ecclestone

Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone says the series risks losing some of the auto manufacturers which build engines for its teams -- if radical new regulations coming into force next year are not popular with fans.

In 2014, F1 will switch from using todayâ€™s 2.4 liter, normally aspirated V8 engines to more environmentally-friendly 1.6-liter turbocharged V6s. Ferrari, Mercedes and Renault have invested a combined total of around $500 million in the new engines, but Ecclestone has campaigned against them. He believes that they will lose F1â€™s distinctive screeching sound and fewer spectators will visit races as a result. He adds that the manufacturers have placed such a big bet on the new engines that if they need to spend more on improving them it could force them out of F1.

I did a search of local building plans and found that permit have been applied for to put in a new sprinkler system around Lime Rock. Digging a little deeper I was able to get a copy of the blue prints under the Freedom of Information Act. They show that the sprinkler heads will be squarely aimed at the track surface and not the foliage surrounding the track.

This made me think, if you really wanted to put things into the drivers hands more, with the service being so quick, why not remove the electronic RPM limiters on pit road. The drivers would have to maintain the proper speed in and out of the pits...?
