Nascar runs 36 races a season, admittedly not all over the world, but it seems to me 22 should be doable.....they have enough personel on these teams that they can rotate people in and out if needed.

Here's a question. So Pirelli ask Red Bull, Ferrari, and Merc to do a test with the 2013 car and only Merc did it after asking Charlie Whiting and getting approval. RB and Ferrari didn't ask they knew it was against the rules.
Is Merc bad because they asked, got permission and did the test? Maybe they're a little less bad. Certainly the issue comes down to Charlie Whiting giving permission to brake the rules. -

Ferrari did the test, but they didn't use the 2013 car, they used the 2011 car - per the sporting regulations. Mercedes didn't......
I don't think Pirelli asked them to use the current car, as it's against the regs, and I really doubt Charlie would OK that.......but if you have info to the contrary I'd like to read it.
The trial will be in three days, after that we should know the truth, or as much of it as they want to share with the world. -

Ah yes, Merc's rumored approval letter from Charlie Whiting. If it really exists, maybe it also explains the rumor from last week that Jean Todt and the FIA are planning to replace Whiting with Giorgio Ascanelli.....
Rumors make the media world spin like a dervish. -

Yes but.......
Even with the get out of jail free letter, all the other teams would have had to approve the test ahead of time, and you KNOW Red Bull would not have done that, neither would Ferrari or Lotus......in fact I doubt any of the teams would have gone along with it it, since it contravenes the sporting regs, but clearly they were not pre-informed, since they protested it later.
I think MBZ is in a real pickle.....and I think Braun will fall on his sword to save the team points (and face) and I think if Charlie did write such a missive, it'll be a good excuse to let him "retire" too.
So who will Braun end up at after it all dies down? He's an amazingly good team manager and strategist......one of the lesser teams could do well to have him I think. -

I think Braun would go back to retirement. But the guys that could use him are Lotus. Look at what he did without much money with his team.
If the letter exists I think Merc would still get some kind penalty. But maybe it's time for Charlie to retire. Maybe he can take Bernie with him. They can join Max, watch races on tv and complain. -

I suppose they're referring to the tire marks as he left the corner?
Maybe he majorly flat spotted the tires trying to miss the Caterham, that could do it ......
Pretty cool vid tho!
Edit: watched it about three more times, the tires only start chattering just as he crosses the tar strip, I think it was just wheel hop after hitting that strip, nothing more sinister than that.... -
Wheel hop.

Don't think those F1 cars wheel hop. Could it be some sort of traction control. Me thinks it is possible. Hmmm....
-
The very best top fuel dragsters can experience wheel hop, there is nothing about an F1 car that would make it impossible given the right conditions.....unless maybe they do have traction control.....

Wheel hop or hitting the rev limiter.
It's an Italian news source for the original report so maybe their not happy RB and Vettel are beating Ferrari and Alonso. -

From Steve Matchett, in direct quote from Red Bull's Team Manager, Tom Wheatley (FWIW):
"Ok, seen the clip, been through the data and what happened, in chronological order, was 1) High degree of rear wheel slip. 2) Joint in the tarmac. 3) Cross axle oscillation. 4) Alternating driveshaft wind and unwind out of phase. If you have a look at the vid you can see the rubber marks alternate left and right rather than as pairs." -

It actually started before the strip in the road. Look closely and you can see the tracks have light and dark areas whereas a bit further up the road it is only the dark patches showing up.
Definitely something going on there. Sure could explain why Seb is able to get so much performance from his cold tires at the start of a race.
I don't know.....sure looks like they are paired up, not alternating. -
Someone want to explain Cross axle oscillation to me please.
