I won't express an opinion on his F1 chops here but, to tell the truth, I don't know why the sports car world is making such a fuss about Webber coming in to "lead" Porsche's LMP1 WEC efforts and return to Le Mans. Yes, I've seen the word "lead" used a few times now and I'm baffled. Seems like there are plenty of other drivers they could poach who already have more of the navigating through the slower cars smoothness necessary for successful multi-class sports car racing. When the rumors started I assumed he would be driving a factory GTE car, at least for a settling in / transition year, not the P1. -

I agree with Steve, Porsche like Ferrari has the chops to entice any of the top drivers to their effort, and already have quite a good crop of talent driving their cars in other series, including previous LMP2 or LMP"lite" - or whatever they called it - efforts.
I'm sure Mark will do well for them if he doesn't crash out, like he's done sooooo many times in his F1 career. But lead driver? huh? :confused5:
But here's the real question, who's going to be paired with Alonso next year at Ferrari? -

After reading jnky's comment I realize I don't think I've read anything from either Porsche or Webber about him leading their efforts. I did see it, more than once, but I'm sure that word is coming from media sensationalizing, per usual.
Back to F1, after qualifying this morning someone wrote "good RBR job application from Ricciardo." Given Vettel and Webber came 4th and 5th, respectively, 6th for Ricciardo looks pretty good (his teammate JEV is 13th). In fact, I assume the penalty for Di Resta's car being found underweight means he'll be bumped from his excellent 5th place qualifying position and Ricciardo will start 5th, right behind Webber. Once is not enough but it's great timing given how closely Horner and Mateschitz are watching these days. -
There is a big difference in"Webber will lead," and "Webber will help lead Porsche back to the top level of Sports Car racing."

They said the cuts were on the inside of the tire, that the guys were going so far over the curbs that it was cutting them as they came back across. If that's really the case and not an inherent construction issue, I say fair's fair. Don't go over the curbs...problem fixed.
If.......
And how the heck does a guy go from 4th to 15th on the start?
And then finish 2nd? -

Charlie Whiting says he thought of red flagging the race at one point. Not just because of the cars and drivers but safety of marshalls as well.
Big problems like we saw today at Silverstone can produce knee jerk reactions, sometimes that's a good thing.

Well, I'm sorry Mock Weeba, but I do not believe Red Bull - who's in a constructors championship fight - would purposely sabotage one of their cars so that it consistantly can't get off the starting line. It's so unlikely as to be laughable. On top of that, he has a history of not being able to get going at the start - I mean, even the announcers consider it his normal start anymore - to lose a bunch of places at lights out - while Vettel smokes off into the distance.
However, his drive thru the field today was something to watch!
Well done there, Mark. Just think of where you could have been had you not gone backwards 11 places to start the race.
Seabass was just stroking along, no way Rosbug could have caught him by the end.... -

Germany in less than a week. If they're going to change the tires before Fri practice they need to do something fast. I have a feeling Whitmarsh is right, there's not enough time unless Pirelli happen to have some 2012 spec tires in the warehouse.
On the other hand, until Pirelli figure out what was going on no one really knows what needs to change. It could be the tire construction, it could related to teams running left side tires on the right (and visa versa) and/or under-inflating them, it could be a combination or something else...but it's probably the tires...

Certainly doesn't make one want to run out and buy a set of Pirelli's... They weren't just going flat, looked to be sudden and catastrophic de lamination....

Moving on. Silly season started early. As remote of a possibility as it is, I'd love to see Kimi in an RB car. It would make for an interesting dynamic. Also, I am just curious to see how good Vettel would be in comparison to a driver of an equal stature in an identical (at least similar) car. What I'm saying is, Kimi > Webber.
Also, Diffy, Hobbs and Matchet, while discussing 2014 specs... There seems to be a perception that RB with Newey's genius are front runners in the aero/over all car design. Discuss...
