It's a good article, and seems to be refreshingly realistic. Add the fact NJ would make it a 21 race calendar for 2014 and I think the odds drop a bit further.
So, I just recently was directed to this site as we placed our Mini order yesterday. I knew there would be Mini fanatics on this site, but I had no idea there would be F1 fans as well..... I truly am in automotive heaven :biggrin5: Ordered my tickets for Austin yesterday
Welcome, Z06! I was just at CoTA for the Aussie supercars race - if you haven't been there yet it's a fantastic venue - you're gonna love it!
was ready to go last year and had a death in the immediate family the day before I was leaving, so i gave my tickets to my buddy I was going with and he found someone to use them. This year I have instructed everyone in my family to remain healthy....at least until AFTER the CoTA F1 race, then they can do what they want ! We are in turn 9 bleachers...cannot wait...
Right in the esses, should be great fun. We were in turn 1 at the top of the hill, hell of a view from there!
We were sitting right near the sart line, row 3-4 on the grid. It was a fun race. Sadly I can't make it this year.
Nascar runs 36 races a season, admittedly not all over the world, but it seems to me 22 should be doable.....they have enough personel on these teams that they can rotate people in and out if needed.
Here's a question. So Pirelli ask Red Bull, Ferrari, and Merc to do a test with the 2013 car and only Merc did it after asking Charlie Whiting and getting approval. RB and Ferrari didn't ask they knew it was against the rules. Is Merc bad because they asked, got permission and did the test? Maybe they're a little less bad. Certainly the issue comes down to Charlie Whiting giving permission to brake the rules.
Ferrari did the test, but they didn't use the 2013 car, they used the 2011 car - per the sporting regulations. Mercedes didn't...... I don't think Pirelli asked them to use the current car, as it's against the regs, and I really doubt Charlie would OK that.......but if you have info to the contrary I'd like to read it. The trial will be in three days, after that we should know the truth, or as much of it as they want to share with the world.
Ah yes, Merc's rumored approval letter from Charlie Whiting. If it really exists, maybe it also explains the rumor from last week that Jean Todt and the FIA are planning to replace Whiting with Giorgio Ascanelli..... Rumors make the media world spin like a dervish.
Yes but....... Even with the get out of jail free letter, all the other teams would have had to approve the test ahead of time, and you KNOW Red Bull would not have done that, neither would Ferrari or Lotus......in fact I doubt any of the teams would have gone along with it it, since it contravenes the sporting regs, but clearly they were not pre-informed, since they protested it later. I think MBZ is in a real pickle.....and I think Braun will fall on his sword to save the team points (and face) and I think if Charlie did write such a missive, it'll be a good excuse to let him "retire" too. So who will Braun end up at after it all dies down? He's an amazingly good team manager and strategist......one of the lesser teams could do well to have him I think.
I think Braun would go back to retirement. But the guys that could use him are Lotus. Look at what he did without much money with his team. If the letter exists I think Merc would still get some kind penalty. But maybe it's time for Charlie to retire. Maybe he can take Bernie with him. They can join Max, watch races on tv and complain.
I suppose they're referring to the tire marks as he left the corner? Maybe he majorly flat spotted the tires trying to miss the Caterham, that could do it ...... Pretty cool vid tho! Edit: watched it about three more times, the tires only start chattering just as he crosses the tar strip, I think it was just wheel hop after hitting that strip, nothing more sinister than that....
Don't think those F1 cars wheel hop. Could it be some sort of traction control. Me thinks it is possible. Hmmm....
