I remember that race Michael was winning but then let Mario have it for a Father's Day present. I thought it was great.
From my memory he didn't let Dad win, he took it. My cloudy memory remembers Michael running out of fuel. Yep that was one great race ending.
Time for Monza. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7QDWj1IRQc]Monza 1956 F1 Italian Grand Prix - YouTube[/ame]
Are you guys getting the fascinating infrared camera shots from Monza? If not: [ame=http://youtu.be/24iacFcrVOg]Formula 1 Thermal (IR) Onboard Camera View of Tires - YouTube[/ame] On the UK TV coverage they said black was under 80C/160F and orange was 120C/220F and above. I like how you can see how much negative camber they run - on the long Monza straights, most of the tyre width cools down below 80C except for a narrow strip next to the inside sidewall. And, for the observant, it does seem the video above has been reversed from left to right - the Parabolica definitely goes right!
They showed one very brief shot of the IR Camera in qualifying in the US coverage and that was of a P3 off.
They showed quite a bit of it in Practice 2. Very interesting stuff. There was no mention of what the temps were.
That is fascinating. I want to say it's amazing how quickly temps change under stress but without a scale there's no way to know how much change is occurring. Maybe significant, maybe not so much. Were the announcers able to say anything about the range represented?
They had a shot looking back to the rad intakes on the car. Under braking as the air flow lessened you could see the temp go up. They got lighter indicating higher temp.

I'll get back to you. I'm just now watching the last part of IGP Qualifying and hope to see the Pre-Race and actual IGP later tonight. Still can't believe Hamilton and both Lotus cars missed the cut. :confused5:
Meh because Vettel won? There was quite a bit of concern that his transmission was about to fail. Webbo's too...... Two Vettel DNF's and two Alonso wins and this is a completely different championship - at least the driver's. Webba actually got a good start for a change! Hamster really stormed thru the pack to finish where he did, Hulk did a great job in the Sauber, improving his chances of a Ferrari seat next year. I don't know what happened to Kimi, but after having to change the nose he was going to have a fight to get into the points. All in all, it was a good race, I thought.
I wonder if Ferrari waited to long to get Alonso on some fresh tires. If he'd have been closer and hounding Seb possibly the transmission might have gone south. Then again Webba was not holding back like the team wanted him to, so the transmission thing may have been a red herring.
