I don't complain about how it used to be, I only feel that it could be so much better than it is.......now. Tomorrow's race will probably be a case in point, with the pole leader out clear in front from ding to dong and the rest dicing it up for leftovers. The real racing in F1 has always been the mid pack, where they are so closely matched that any one of them could come out in 5th or 6th........
I’m not saying it’s perfect - I’d rather that DRS go away too, and the grid penalties for engine swaps have gotten pretty ridiculous. The extra DRS zones aren’t really helpful either but I do see the potential in allowing the drivers to get close enough for some real action in the twisty bits. Though, reducing the reliance on aero would let that happen too. Do I have a better solution? Not really, but I understand those gripes. Despite those issues though, I feel like it’s pretty much the same sport it’s always been. We’ve always complained about silly nonsense rules and we’ve rarely seen good fights at the front. I’m kind of hopeful for today though - Lewis will have to carve his way through some pretty determined drivers if he wants a podium in his car that is otherwise painted on the road. And the sand at Bahrain can make some corners very tricky, if the wind is wrong, so it’d be easy for an over enthusiastic driver to go off and lose a place or 3. I was hoping Kimi’d get on the pole, but with Seb there, it’s more likely that yeah, he’ll revert to his old Red Bull days and we won’t see much of him until the podium. But then like I said, the leader driving off into the distance is totally normal in F1 and always has been.
We will see.. its on right now. I'm actually watching it on ESPN 2 right now (just turned it on). Usually I'm not around during the race and I pull it down. HOLY Cow the amount of sparks coming from the ferrari down the straight. If that continues to happen Vettel skid plank will be gone.
It definitely was a nail biter there at the end, Vettel did masterful job with his tires, well done Seb! And even more Kudo's to Gasly and Toro Rosso/Honda, showed big Mac a thing or two didn't they? The mid pack was where all the action was, and all the passing, the mid is where it's at!
Agreed... I picked up the race half way through and didn't see a commercial. Was quite nice. Yes it was... this was a good one.... and the right team won (IMO).
Considering where the race took place...they don't need to broadcast commercials there..THEY ARE THE COMMERCIALS there!
I enjoyed the race. Seb really did a masterful job of driving & keeping those tires under him. To me it was surprising that Bottas didn't try harder with his only attempt at a pass. This year is shaping up to be a good one. Oh yes & Honda beats the Mclaren's.
My take is if Bottas had gone in Seb would have let him have it as he didn't want a DNF. At least that is my take. I know Hamilton sure would have gone in & banged wheels with Seb.
This is another example of why, unless there is improvement, Bottas will be gone from Mercedes next year. Hamilton comes from 9th to 3rd, but Bottas can’t get by Vettel, whose tires are roached? Good race. Liked the no commercials; we’ll see how long that lasts.
Seb did what he does best: Drive the F%&k out of old tires. He’s done it a lot. Best tire management of the lot.
That's just the pickup of marbles on the in lap. But here is some great news, no more commercials all season! https://www.motorsportweek.com/news/id/17686?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook
Yes pick up & lots of it. They drive off line & pick up as much of that dead rubber as they can to make sure the car makes the minimum weight for post race inspection. Great news on a commercial free season of F1. Thanks Scott!
