Jalopnik is reporting that the COTA owners/management have decided not to allow track days and other events that involve track rental. "... officials at the circuit have canceled all rentals, club races, driver's education events and other track days for 2013." No explanation offered as of yet. There was a big Ferrari event there recently but clubs with track days previously secured and scheduled to occur after the first of the year are being notified of cancellations and are pissed, understandably. Being as I'm still on the Lone Star Region BMW CCA and Driver's Edge email lists I got those emails this morning from both lamenting the loss of the dates they had scheduled at COTA. I'm disappointed they are taking this route. Hope they get their heads out of the collective asses soon.
After noticing the furor they caused, the folks at COTA have attempted to calm things down with a couple announcements and explanations (sort of). Find them here.
I wait with bated breath... Sorta. I want to run the course but I kinda figured something like this would happen. Hopefully they will change their minds down the road. If they do I'll own race-wheels/tires/brakes and I'll be putting more track miles on the MINI.
Or not. I've never driven with The Driver's Edge. So, I'm not an "Advanced Solo Driver". Too bad they are restricting entries.
Grand-Am is running at COTA this weekend and someone just pointed out that the tower has a "sweet" mullet.
