I know they flew at the Ring, but that picture says photo-chop to me.

I didn't take the picture
I just found it identified as Jackie Stewart followed by teammate Graham Hill at the Nürburgring (1966).

And did find this...If you thought Kobayashi is the only one flying his F1 car around, think again! -

I didn't know there were any 4WD F1 cars until I looked up this thing.

Feet legs & knees all part of the crash structure. How dangerous things used to be & no one paid it any never-mind.

Keke had a big set from what I remember.

.......and I believe this was even after mandating the feet were to be located behind the mid-point of the front wheels.

I can't decide whether that looks like a more or less comfortable driving position than this guy driving the new Nissan LMP car.
-
Might be ok for a 1/2 hour sprint race, anything longer could be a problem.
But then again I'm thinking about my 67 year old knees! -

Something a little different here.
The historic (1999) video I posted in the current year F1 thread made me want to watch the whole race. Unfortunately, the only version I can find on line isn't in English...so I decided to watch the qualifying session.
So, here it is. Yes, it's just quali. I figured I'd click away quickly too but I watched a bit and I was hooked! It's the great Murray Walker and (I don't know...Brundle?) spewing all sorts of information. I got to relive all those great cars I loved to watch (incl. some I don't even remember), even the split-livery BARs (remember them?) and hear about the V10 engines and see the drivers I miss, Salo deputizing for an injured Shumacher and teamed with Irvine, qualifying format was different, backup cars, etc, etc...
If you enjoyed those years, click and reminisce.

The race is pretty fun too (IMO), even if it is in ... German?

Love that flash from the past. Two hard heads going hammer & tongs with predictable results.
