Out of respect for Nathan, M\A and his health issues let's just stop and let all the different Generation car bashing go for a while. Including the New F56.

    Piece offering

p.s. Rick I will still make fun of your car but only in PM's.

Warning an old farts thoughts are below.

Like it or not the new F56 is the new face of MINI. I'm pretty sure most folks know how I feel about that so no rehash here.

To continue to bash away at it will not change a thing. Either love it, get used to it, or ignore it. The continual bashing is not helpful at all. In fact it is most likely driving folks away & keeping new ones from bothering to come here.

    Old Fart ramble over.....

I couldn't care less about hurting a manufacturer's feelings (and I guarantee you that they do look at these sites). However, especially for Nathan's sake, I'm concerned that F56 owners don't feel welcome here and instead go to that other site - if you doubt it, go look at the number of new member posts on the other site. I'm also concerned that potential advertisers get the wrong idea about the content of this site. Like it or not, new members are going to come from the newest MINIS.

Think about it: What have you done for MINI lately? Buy a car 12 years ago? Never go to the dealer for service? Buy all your parts from the good vendors who support this site - but not from a dealer? You're not MINI's target audience. (Those are generic you's, BTW, not you personally. That includes me too - I would have been nuts to spend $1,000 on parts and accessories at my dealer, when I could get them from a couple of the vendors here for $750.)

IMHO, the percentage of true Mini/MINI enthusiasts is higher here than at the other site, and the knowledge base is much better. The problem is that even if the quality is much higher here, the numbers that matter (members, hits, views, etc.) are dwarfed by the other site. What we all should do is invite MINI owners we know to join us here; in the Internet world, it's not use it or lose it - it's grow it or lose it.

Sorry, I'm up to at least $.04 now.

This feedback is good. MINI US does read this site. They should know how it's long term customers feel and react to new models. Stating opinion in well mannered way is always welcome. What needed to stop was the pervasive kicking of the F56 in the balls that was going on here.

While we (that is the collective royal we) may not be a fan of the car there is no reason for the collective royal we to chase away potential new members by our rhetoric and vitriol. I too think the new generation has missed the mark. I won't buy one personally.

As it was mentioned by others, this site is a business, I've never acted as if it was anything else. I've always maintained that it is a for profit entity and that I derive a portion of my income from M/A. With this in mind the site needs to attract new people to continue to grow. The continuos bashing of the F56 is not conducive to attracting new members nor does it fit the "Fun and Friendly" motto the site tries to cultivate.

When you find out where that "class" is being held, let me know. I'd make a real effort to get straight As - maybe even work on my Master's Degree.

I too am looking more closely at a new GTI/Golf R vs the "new" Mini. When I tried one on (F56) at the launch event I liked the comfort of the interior, but didn't care for the change in control locations or the general looks of the F56. Not bashing, but just voicing my opinion after checking one out personally. As for the F54... I thought the Countryman I had as a loaner was too big and clunky looking for a Mini and the new offering takes that look/image even further. When my R56 (which I love) gets to the point that I don't/won't want to sink any more money or effort into it, I might just sell it and use the money on my old '96 Vette. I'm getting to the age where I have to weigh my priorities as far as entering into long term financing a new car and whether it's worth eating into my meager income to do so. As a long time (50+ years) car guy, this is not bashing. It's just a dose of reality.

It refers to everyone with a Royal Grey MINI. Or could it possibly be the Royal grey beards? :ihih:

Mom always said if you can't say something nice don't say anything.

Ok my thoughts on this whole matter laid out here. I really hope I don't hurt anyone's feelings but this needs to be said. ..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Man I feel better getting that load off my chest. Now get off my lawn hippy!

If it weren't for my day job, I would find a shack in the woods out that way too! :p

You brought up a good point in the similarities between Jeeps and MINIs... The JK owners are the black sheep. People argue up and down that its not a true rugged 4X4, and I agree with them... Even though I own one!

The differences between R53 and R56 were not as significant as this newest model. The R56 kept a lot of the rough edges that made the R53 such a blast. I just don't like pretty much anything about the F56. The engine felt strained, and it's suspension and suspension were too soft. Those were the major issues for me, besides the design, and those are the most important pieces of a car. I'm not into the whole silent motoring experience. Why I buy a MCS, I want to hear those 4-cylinders, the exhaust, and some forced induction noises - whether they be turbo spool, or supercharger whine. I'm glad someone is buying the F56, because maybe if MINI can stay afloat, they will fire Anders Warming, and the entire engineering team, and hire back the Rover team that helped create the first two cars.
