Well, he did say "anyone" for some "man to man".

I was not saying WANTING A CONTRASTING ROOF IS OCD, but simply stating that many cars (even mini's in the past) have limited options at launch.......the fact there is about a month that it is not an option...and it leads to do much consternation....nearly like mini owners are entitled to it...personally I think it is a mini heritage item...like center speedo (I did not get it, I got a chrono pack) and center window switches....
BMW made a business descension to not have the roof for a month...maybe to up the production speed through the paint department to maximize cars sold....maybe to get mini folks who waited and did not preorder a fit...who knows....simple fact is you can wait to order or get a different car...
Back when I ordered mine, the dark headliner was on and off again....I made a choice and ordered WHEN I did rather than wait and hope it came back....
Yes, as consumers we must make choices.....as does BMW management....-

Interesting problem given that Corp. is flooding cable TV with ads featuring a bulldog and yellow MINI with black roof and stripes.

Monochrome MINIs are rare because they sell less. They sell less because there is less demand for them and/or they're harder to get (i.e., not an option or more expensive).
I don't know about any other mini, but the F56 can be ordered with any roof color at no cost. If that's true for other MINIs, it means that there is just less demand for them.
If there's less demand, they're harder to sell. Thus less resale value.-

Thanks for the reminder Dave, I would hate to have walked out to the parking lot looking for Yertle. You would think that I would learn that because I don't currently own a MINI that I can't have an opinion or participate in conversations. By that logic, Dave shouldn't be able to post about anything but R53s, the Dragon, and the Church of RMW.....

Wow. Way off topic as usual with some threads here. Knottypine I hope you get the info needed so that you can order your Mini with the color options you desire.
Never mind the children above. It is a"normal" issue within m/a. So normal that you get used to it!
Good luck with your F56 order.-

Thanks for the update nathan. I'll edit the original post to reflect the most current "answer" to this situation. Like I said, I made this thread to get a clear answer and for all prospective buyers.
How many MINIs are on the road without a contrasting roof? 10%? 5%? Less than 1%? Wanting a contrasting roof is hardly being OCD, it's choosing the most basic of options the same way as almost every MINI buyer ever.
(Cue the F56 bashers chiming in with "who cares, the F56 isn't even a MINI! They should be banned from having a contrasting roof!")
Or maybe it's OCD for wanting to order early in the model production run. I'm sure MINI would be glad to be rid of the nuisances so that we can all order 3-24 months after release as God intended.-

The different colored roof is a MINI trade mark, I am sure they will get this problem fixed soon.

I don't think it's some small production delay. They've told dealers that the white/black roof will not go into production for at least 2 months if not longer. That's a pretty big deal for a MINI launch. I doubt many people will opt for the body color roof.

Sometimes I wish GIR was monochrome, maybe they would have painted all the little bits on the outside silver too.

As someone thinking about buying my first MINI soon, this really does perturb me. I personally don't mind much whether my F56 has a contrasting roof, but I'd definitely prefer one. And I imagine the car takes a tangible hit in resale value without one (because there are so few monochrome minis on the road thus the market is inherently smaller.)
I'm also wary about getting a resprayed or vinyl roof (even on the dealer's dime):
- I doubt how the quality of a respray or vinyl would compare with an original factory finish; and
- I know that the resale value of a respray or vinyl will be less compared with an original factory finish.
Bottom line, I'm at least one person abstaining from purchasing for now. The fact that MINI hasn't made any kind of real statement about the situation is not doing them any favors in my eyes, either. -
Not to say your source is incorrect but it would be good to get some corroborating evidence that there is this issue with the roof colors currently. Launch models at a dealer I visited did have black roofs. I'll make a note to call my local dealer tomorrow and discuss. I'd suggest that some others do the same please.

Oh and FYI Monochrome MINI's are more rare than the white and black topped ones, so I think they would be worth more.

I emailed a Motoring Advisor friend of mine and he hasn't heard of any delays. I'll check with another at a different dealer too.
