:cornut: Yup! You're Busted! Money for Bling, not power increase. I must admit that I have been guilty of this also. I would have liked to have seen the test done with a large fan simulating air intake at 70-80mph but, that probably wouldn't have made much of a difference either.

The placebo effect is alive & well. I paid a lot of money & it sounds cool, looks cool, so it is more zoomier. There are lots of good mods & parts out there, there are also the equivalent of snake oil. Be an informed consumer.

With the paper and oiled elements being about the same, horsepower wise, in a stock airbox, the one thing to consider is the cost of replacing the paper element every 15,000 miles verse cleaning/oiling a reuseable oiled element.
The JCW airbox the paper element is about $61 (Penske) and a re-useable filter is about $70 (Helix) plus about $20 for a cleaning kit (lasts about 3 cleanings).
Over 150,000 miles the paper element costs about $610 and the re-useable costs about $150. That is a difference of about $450 to spend on other performance parts. -
I bought the K&N. Works fine, but cleaning, drying and re-oiling it is a PITA.

Wow - JCW filters are expensive!
I use a Wix filter from O'Reilly for $12 and replace 2 or 3 times a year. Non-JCW R53.
