What the heck?! Did everybody miss the first delivery attempt? I did as well! Got it Thursday. Haven't had time to do much more than just open it so far, but looks really cool! Can't wait to start playing with it.

 

Missed again today even after I called and made arrangements. Now I have to wait until Tuesday

 

I missed the group buy but just purchased one. Can't wait to get it.

I want to know where folks are mounting the Wide GoPro on the inside for best movies.

Just got mine and mounted it on the window behind the driver side.

This was with the suction cup? Not bad for vibration.

I used iMovie to edit it. There should have been alot less vibration actually it was user error

 

Here's my latest GoPro Wide video. I had it mounted on the on the upperm right exterior windshield and did the interior shots and and drive-buys with it held in my hand. The rain video was done with my iPhone 3GS.

And here's something cool...The stock screws that come with the GoPro camera are a perfect match for the antenna socket on my R52 cabrio. So you can take off your antenna use a couple of the plastic attachment arms to mount the GoPro at the top of the windshield without using the suction cup! You can do this facing either direction and if you point it backward and down a little you can get a nice view of the cockpit and still see the road and surroundings. I haven't tried this with the antenna socket on and R50/R53/R56 but I suspect it's the same thread.

Wait, there's more for R52 owners. Order the roll cage bracket set for about $20 and you can mount the GoPro on the roll tubes. I put a little piece of thin foam or gaffer's tape on the roll tubes first (for better grip and to protect my checkered vinyl) and the camera stays there great. This gives a GREAT perspective of the cockpit, road, sky and surroundings.

Not my video but one of our BMWCCA instructors shot this last May. Shows the camera takes a licking and keeps on flicking. Apex cone no more.

For everyones info the new HD camera has a rechargable battery with a much longer battery life, not bad resoultion also.

 

I'm pleased to read that, but do you have to remove the camera from the case to charge it? Or do you have to take the battery out?

I bought two of these a couple of years ago and found them so difficult to use as my in-car camera that I only used them once. The quality of the images was very good, but the cameras were fussy to use, and I couldn't tell if the thing was running or not, once it was mounted to the bracket.....I also had issues with the sound quality on mine, I even sent the clips to the Go Pro people but never got a satisfactory answer as to why I had such distortion and terrible static in my recordings.

I'd be curious to hear what those who have the current versions think about them.

I went back to using a regular, small, hard drive vid cam....

 

As far as charging goes you just plug it into USB port, you do have to remove it from case though. On the sound issue wind noise or rattling is present I know there is no way to eliminate it so just dub motor sound or music in place of it I guess.

See, they claim on their website that they've eliminated wind noise by software, but that was terrible! I liked the music, tho....Kraftwerke, right?

I had the wind noise filter turned on on mine, but it was still so bad as to make the recordings unwatchable with the sound on, and hearing the engine rev and the up/down shifts is part of what makes these vids so fun to watch - to me....

On my regular vid cam, I just put a couple layers of race car tape over the mic opening and it seems to kill most of the wind noise.....
