OK if we can get 10 people to participate we can offer a smoking deal on these cameras via PM, price too low to list.

how did you use a 4gb card? I thought you could only go up to a 2gb. And how do you edit the video down to be able to upload to YouTube. I've recorded my last 2 races but they are 30 min long.

    Tim & MINIBee,

Thanks for the updates and placement suggestions. Nice that the 4GB card works, too.

So, sign up folks. I need this camera before MITM4 in August. After last years rain a waterproof case is a good idea. :)

How about a second or third camera for multiple-simultaneous camera views :D

    Message from GoPro

    Hi Vincent,

The older 3mp HERO cameras will only support standard SD cards of up to 2GB>

We're still working on the firmware upgrade for the 5mp HERO cameras to fully support the 4GB SD cards and hope to have it available for download from our website within the next month. Right now the camera is limited to saving a 2GB file. So, if using a higher capacity card you need stop any single video record before 56 minutes (2GB) or you will end up with a corrupt file if over 2GB. You can however fill up a 4GB or larger card with several records under 2GB.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

    Many thanks,

    GoPro Support

So, you can use ANY size SD card and fill the whole thing if you like, as long as you monitor your timing. Seems like a 56 minute max would rarely be a problem for anyone.

I'm guessing with the firmware upgrade the "any size" card biz will still apply but there'll be a new time limit for each recording at 112 minutes (1 hour, 52 minutes).

I used a class 6 4GB card and it worked fine. I don't know for sure that the camera "saw" all 4GB of the card (because I didn't fill the card) but I'm pretty sure I went over 2GB and had no issues.

I use Final Cut Pro to edit the video and the Elgato Turbo HD compression device for H264 compression.

This explains how I was able to use a 4GB card. I did exceed 2GB on the card but I had 10-12 files from multiple autocross runs and none exceeded 2GB as a single file.

" price too low to list."

You work for the Shamwow guy? Might try the line "Only for the people that call in the next ten minutes." I'm not sure how that works when they run the ad 200 times?

Good information on the time limit per file. Very usable with a 4GB card and normal run sessions in lapping and HPDE type events.

    Thank you for the updates.

roach, the price is good, send a PM and get on the list. :arf:

Here's another video I made using the GoPro Hero wide. I had it mounted by the fuel door on the outside and a second mount inside for the cockpit view. Then I mixed that with additional video I made with a camera out on the course. This was his first autocross and he did great!

Great mixing and nice camera mount ideas. Enjoyed the video. Sound was picked up by the GoPro or the other camera?

Thanks. The sound in that ground-level shot was from the mics on that camera (Canon VIXIA HF100). I had the camera sitting flat on the ground on the edge of the track for that shot. I had sound from the GoPro but decided to drop it out on this one in favor of the music.

Does anyone have a clip from the normal (not wide) version? I know the specs are 54 degrees (for the normal) and 170 degrees (wide) and I don't see much of the usual nasty fisheye effects from the wide, but it would be good to SEE the difference in the fields of view.

    thanks
